Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. Assistant Women's Rowing Coach

  • Position Summary:

    Kansas Athletics has created a new Assistant Coach opportunity to provide further support to the rowing program. The Assistant Women’s Rowing Coach works closely with the Head Coach in all phases of the women’s rowing program.  The primary duties and responsibilities include, developing and implementing training and technical systems, daily practice and evaluation systems, all to assist the Head Coach in creating and developing a highly competitive rowing program.  The position is also responsible for coordinating specific recruiting areas and other administrative duties as assigned.

    Responsibilities of all Positions at Kansas Athletics:

    1. Adhere to University, Big 12 Conference, Kansas Athletics and NCAA policies and procedures;
    2. Maintain knowledge of departmental activities, sports schedules and procedures;
    3. Foster cooperative working relationships with immediate supervisor and staff members who work within or outside his/her work unit;
    4. Support the athletics departmental goals and philosophies as described by the Director of Athletics, and work to achieve and uphold the department’s mission statement and core values;
    5. Maintain a positive attitude toward performing job duties and working with other staff members;
    6. Exhibit professional decorum at all times while representing Kansas Athletics, including routine events and meetings that occur outside of the office and on the road.
    7. Maintain the confidentiality of all information obtained while an employee of Kansas Athletics including all private, confidential, or sensitive information and ensuring compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, and other applicable regulations.

     

    Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

    1. Develops and implements training and technical systems, working closely with the Head Coach, to create a highly competitive rowing program;
    2. Works closely with the Head Coach in all phases of the recruiting process and coordinates specific recruiting areas, including but not limited to recruitment on and off campus (domestic and international);
    3. Identifies and successfully recruits talented prospective student-athletes;
    4. Develops daily practice and evaluation systems and documents athlete progress in a testing and evaluation database;
    5. Works closely with the Head Coach to develop race strategies;
    6. Assists the Head Coach with boating and boat assignments;
    7. Works closely with the Academic Advisor and Head Coach on monitoring and encouraging academic excellence in all areas of student-athlete academics;
    8. Maintains and develops Rowing coach knowledge and technical skills;
    9. Performs other duties as assigned by the Head Coach.

    Required Qualifications:           

    • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university;
    • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to NCAA rules and regulations;
    • Ability to maintain positive professional relationships with student-athletes, staff and alumni;
    • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills; ability to identify and successfully recruit talented prospective student athletes for the sport of rowing;
    • An equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

    Preferred Qualifications:          

    • Minimum of 2 years' experience working in Division 1 athletics or former collegiate rower; 
    • Recruiting experience at the collegiate or club level rowing program.

    Work Environment

    This job operates in both a professional office environment and outside at rowing-related events, including inclement weather and around large bodies of water such as lakes and rivers. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers and various digital devices, including, but not limited to:  cell phone, printer, copy machine, and other related devices. This job requires flexibility and adaptability in schedule and the ability to perform job related duties on short notice.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. This position may require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying material weighing up to 125 pounds; sitting and/or standing up to eight hours each day; and working in all weather conditions.

    Travel

    Moderate travel is expected for this position for rowing-related events, race days, and regattas.

    Hours of Work

    This is a full-time position, days and hours of work will be based as job duties demand.  Evening, weekend, and holiday work may be required, as needed.
