    Position Summary

    The College of Education seeks a creative, detail-oriented and analytical web content administrator to join the Communications team. The successful candidate will create and curate web-based experiences that convey the college’s/university's visions, missions, values, priorities, and policies.

    This position provides day-to-day support for the college’s departments, programs, offices, centers, and institutes related to the web content management system (CMS) -- which can include timely responses to edits, troubleshooting, new/existing user onboarding, and training. This role balances the maintenance of existing web pages while continually assessing and improving the user experience and anticipating future web needs. The position requires a creative thinker capable of producing engaging content that resonates with diverse audiences.

    The successful candidate must be able to understand/read, develop and assist with basic front- and back-end coding (including HTML, CSS, JS) to maintain the college’s CMS and develop/introduce new functionalities.

    In addition, the web content administrator will support digital accessibility and search engine optimization through websites, documents, or other digital experiences.

    The web content administrator reports to the College of Education’s senior director of communications. They will also serve as a leader and liaison on behalf of the Communications team when working with college leadership, faculty, and staff. They will maintain connections and facilitate information sharing with University Communications, fellow campus web managers, and the internal/university IT team.

    An Expected Breakdown Of Duties

    Strategy & Coordination – 40%

    Review and recommend viable best practices to ensure a positive web-based user experience – this includes meeting and strategizing with college stakeholders to improve pages continually

    Host regular strategic planning opportunities or focus groups to learn how our website can be better constructed, written, or positioned for positive user experiences

    Identify and strategize ways to leverage digital platforms to accomplish college/university priorities

    Assess and improve our search engine optimization (SEO) by suggesting and implementing site updates

    Attend related MSU meetings and conferences, including Web Dev CAFE, University Communicators Network, Digital Accessibility Liaisons

    Maintenance & Support – 40%

    Respond promptly to and manage requests for website updates while adhering to internal strategic guidelines/parameters

    Enforce digital accessibility requirements

    Enforce content lifecycles, including archiving content and web pages

    Manage website creation process, responding to requests for new web pages and resources

    Create and disperse training materials and opportunities related to web strategy/maintenance to relevant college stakeholders

    Analysis & Documentation – 20%

    Ensure proper collection and use of website analytics via Google Analytics

    Implement and assess usage of URL tagging metrics to inform team decision-making

    Create and maintain documentation and strategies for internal processes and procedures

    Important Notes For Prospective Candidates

    The College of Education is undergoing a site migration from WordPress to Sitecore. In the first year (or so), many job responsibilities will be related to this process.

    This position is hybrid. The selected candidate will be expected to work in person at least two days per week.

    Introductory salary ranges align with Administrative Professional Association (APA) 11 minimum/automatic progression level ranges, which can be viewed on the MSU Human Resources site.

    Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

    Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years of college, technical, vocational or business school such as an Associate’s Degree in computer technology or information systems with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed OR a Bachelor’s Degree in computer technology or information systems, with coursework in an information technology specialization related to the area of employment; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an information technology area related to the duties to be performed; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Desired Qualifications

    Strongly preferred

    Bachelor’s degree in a related field

    Any experience with the Sitecore CMS or with website migration

    At least one year of experience working in or managing website content management systems

    Demonstrated Experience With And Excellence In

    content management systems such as WordPress, Drupal, Sitecore, etc. (the college will use Sitecore beginning in 2024)
