Position Summary

As a Web Developer II, you will be responsible for utilizing PHP and JavaScript designing, developing, and maintaining web applications and websites. You will work closely with a team of developers, designers, project managers, and stakeholders to create functional and visually appealing online experiences. The ideal candidate thrives on taking a project from planning through launch, and on-going optimization, working collaboratively as part of a cross functional team, helping ensure the creation of exceptional user experiences. Reporting Accountability: Director of Programming

Working Location: On-site in Waterloo, IA (potential for hybrid opportunities)

Work Hours Classification: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm CST additional hours as needed for project deadlines

Responsibilities

• Write clean, fast PHP code: Develop, test, and deploy robust and scalable web applications using PHP and related technologies that adheres to industry standards and best practices.
• Produce detailed specifications: Clearly document requirements and specifications for software development.
• Troubleshoot and maintain core product software and custom web applications: Identify and resolve issues, perform testing, and ensure optimal functionality.
• Collaborate with the team: Work closely with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, implement solutions that meet business objectives, and deliver successful projects within the given timeline.
• Follow industry best practices: Stay up to date with the latest trends and techniques in PHP development.
• Contribute throughout the development lifecycle: Participate in all phases, from initial specification to testing and deployment.
• Perform Code Reviews: Participate in code reviews to ensure code quality and adherence to coding standards.
• Provide guidance and support to junior developers: Work with team members by sharing best practices and helping them to resolve technical challenges.

Position Qualifications

Education / Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• 3 years of experience in a Web Developer or Software Developer Role
• Must comply with continuing education per company, regulatory, contractual, and accreditation requirements

Requirements:

• Proficient in PHP, JavaScript, HTML5, JQuery, MySQL, JSON, XML, APIs, security, and data protection.
• Understanding of open-source projects
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
• Strong understanding of relational database management systems (e.g., MySQL, MongoDB) and ability to write efficient SQL queries.
• Experience with integrating third-party APIs.
• Experience using advanced software libraries and frameworks such as Laravel, Symfony, and Bootstrap
• Passion for design and coding practices
• Understanding of GIT source control.
• Excellent problem-solving skills.
• Must be detail oriented and work easily with resources at all levels.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Must be able to collaborate with various teams & work on short timelines.
• Work successfully in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.
• Ability to handle multiple priorities without compromising quality.
• Understand and advocate industry best practices and the reasons for using them.

Physical Requirements:

• Operation of office equipment and using technology efficiently such as computers, phones, misc. office equipment.
• Visual abilities to include reading, distance vision and peripheral vision.
• Moving throughout the VGM facilities when needed.
