Volunteer Coordinator supervises and leads the daily undertakings of a volunteer program to attract, inspire, train, and deploy volunteers. Leads the recruiting, interviewing, and hiring of volunteer workers. Being a Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for training and educating volunteers. Motivates and inspires volunteers to encourage teamwork. Additionally, Volunteer Coordinator evaluates and reviews volunteer schedules and makes adjustments as necessary. Ensures that the activities of the volunteer workers meet the needs of the organization. May require a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Volunteer Coordinator supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. About the Site and Position :
First State National Historical Park recently opened a new Welcome Center in Historic New Castle, Delaware and is the process of creating a Trail Management Plan for the park’s most northern unit, the Brandywine Valley.
This marks a very exciting time to get involved with the park as you will be able to help a newer National Park transition into a more mature and established park.
The VISTA Steward will be involved with helping the park create a YCC program to begin to implement part of the Trail Management Plan throughout the next year.
In addition, they will be able to assist with evaluating the park’s new Welcome Center, implementing a Junior Ranger program, expanding the park’s community outreach, and expanding the park’s volunteer program to a park wide initiative.
During the duration of the position, the VISTA Steward will be able to participate in professional development opportunities such as trainings and job shadowing.
The VISTA Steward will also be exposed to active projects happening in the park such as the African American Addendum to the Historic Resource Study, the Archeological Overview Assessment, and the Cultural Landscape Inventory.
Other trainings and opportunities may be made available throughout the year for the VISTA steward as mutually agreed upon by the steward and their supervisor.
