Veterinary Technician assists veterinarian with exams, surgeries, and first aid. Collects and documents case history and treatment details. Being a Veterinary Technician monitors vital signs and condition of animals being treated and provides nursing care. Takes X rays, EKG, Ultrasound, and performs various lab test including urinalysis and blood counts. Additionally, Veterinary Technician depending on state regulations, may administer anesthesia, injections, and perform dental prophylaxis, catheterization, and other procedures under supervision of a veterinarian. Instructs pet owners on how to administer medication and other animal care skills. Typically requires an associate degree. Depending on state, may require RVT certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Veterinary Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function.     Summary:

    Riverside Veterinary Care and Dental Services is a full-service, AAHA accredited animal hospital with two locations in beautiful central VT. We are a privately owned practice that welcomes both emergent cases and patients in need of routine wellness, surgical, and dental care.

    We are seeking a dedicated veterinary technician to join our animal care team full time. The ideal candidate will at least 1-2 years experience as a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant; be able to work independently and as part of a team; will be able to maintain professionalism and remain calm in a fast paced environment, through stressful and emotional situations; will have excellent technical skills and compassion for pets and their people; have a strong commitment to providing top-notch care for every patient.

    Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

    • Assist veterinarians in routine examinations and surgical procedures
    • Administer medications and vaccines as directed by the veterinarian
    • Perform laboratory tests such as blood work and urinalysis
    • Take radiographs
    • Provide nursing care to hospitalized patients
    • Maintain accurate medical records
    • Educate pet owners on proper animal care and medication administration
    • Handle and restrain animals during procedures

    Experience:

    • Experience working in a veterinary setting as a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant for at least a year
    • Knowledgeable in animal physiology; veterinary terminology and practices; diagnostic testing and radiograph procedures; anesthesia monitoring; venipuncture and catheter placement; and animal husbandry.
    • Certification as a CVT/LVT or CVA highly preferred

    Requirements:

    • High School diploma
    • Reliable transportation; dependable and punctual
    • Experience working in a veterinary setting as a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant for at least a year
    • Able to lift 50lbs independently
    • Able to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach for extended periods of time
    • Be at least 18 years old
    • Pass a background check
