Veterinary Technician jobs in Florida

Veterinary Technician assists veterinarian with exams, surgeries, and first aid. Collects and documents case history and treatment details. Being a Veterinary Technician monitors vital signs and condition of animals being treated and provides nursing care. Takes X rays, EKG, Ultrasound, and performs various lab test including urinalysis and blood counts. Additionally, Veterinary Technician depending on state regulations, may administer anesthesia, injections, and perform dental prophylaxis, catheterization, and other procedures under supervision of a veterinarian. Instructs pet owners on how to administer medication and other animal care skills. Typically requires an associate degree. Depending on state, may require RVT certification. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Veterinary Technician works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function.     That being said, we are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Veterinary Technician to join our team. In addition to the technical skills necessary to provide quality patient care, we are looking for someone who understands the importance of exemplary customer service and creating a warm, inviting environment for all those who walk through our doors. We are a growing veterinary hospital and we are looking to hire a team of individuals who want to grow with us!

    Daily responsibilities for a Veterinary Technician include, but are not limited to:

    • Facilitate in-room and drop-off appointments with the DVM, including obtaining a thorough subjective and complete vital signs, effectively communicating recommendations to clients, providing appropriate education for clients regarding their pet's health, collecting samples/specimen for diagnostics, correctly entering records/invoicing for each appointment, and processing payment
    • Provide nursing care for hospitalized pets, including feeding, administering medications, walking, cleaning kennels, bathing pets, cleaning wounds, etc.
    • Place IV catheters
    • Obtain samples/specimen for laboratory diagnostics and executing diagnostics in an accurate and timely manner
    • Maintain complete and accurate medical records for all patients
    • Assist with surgical procedures, including prepping pets for surgery, monitoring surgical procedures, and performing dental scaling and polishing
    • Effectively communicate with clients in person, over the phone, and via text; provide accurate, easy-to-understand information regarding their pet's health
    • Take digital radiographs with correct positioning; label/annotate radiographs; and attach images to patient files
    • Work as a team player, jumping in to help wherever needed throughout the hospital

    POSITION REQUIREMENTS

    • MUST have full open availability Monday through Friday
    • While 1 year of Veterinary Technician experience is desired, it is not required -- we provide on-the-job training regardless of level of experience
    • Proficient with computers and software
    • Knowledge of surgical monitoring procedures and parameters with the ability to troubleshoot and communicate problems when they arise is ideal, but not required
    • Ability to transcribe Medical Notes quickly, accurately, and with correct terminology
    • Ability to independently multitask and carry out instructions in an organized manner
    • Excellent communication skills with clients, fellow team members, and leadership
    • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve with confidence
    • Handle emergency situations calmly, professionally, and compassionately
