Traffic Clerk provides administrative and clerical support to the traffic operations function of an organization. Responsible for all aspects of routing, shipping, logging, and tracking of inbound and outbound orders. Being a Traffic Clerk contacts transporters for freight pick-up and ensures that cargo is routed appropriately. Communicates changes to routing and timelines. Additionally, Traffic Clerk prepares and processes bills of lading (BOL) and other shipping documentation. Requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Traffic Clerk works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline.     The Traffic Court Clerk position is part of the Master Clerk Program at the St Johns Clerk of the Circuit Court and Comptroller. The starting salary is $15.02 an hour. This is increased to $17.16 an hour once a clerk is deputized. On-the-job training is provided by our highly qualified staff and most clerks are deputized within the first 90 days. There is an additional increase to $19.50 an hour once a clerk is certified. The certification process is completed within six to twelve months depending on the clerk’s duties. The Clerk of Court provides an excellent benefit package to include Health, Life, Dental and Vision Insurance, Paid Holidays, Vacation Pay, Sick Pay, On-Site Gym, Tuition Reimbursement, and Florida Retirement System (FRS).The purpose of this position is to process traffic and parking citations and collect related fines. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of division operations. The work consists of related clerical and customer service duties.

    EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
    Answers telephone and assists customers; provides information and assistance.Processes all email requests from customers, law enforcement and attorneys. Receives and inputs traffic and parking citations manually.Relates civil traffic cases to criminal court cases and transmits documentation.Processes payments made by telephone.Clears license suspensions.Prepares correspondence regarding customer balances, payments, due dates, and payment options.Balances and prepares related reports.Reviews the E-portal pending queue to ensure filing parties are aware of document acceptance or rejection; ensures documents are properly filed.Prints a variety of reports, dockets, and calendars.Researches and prints driver histories.Issues summonses.Prepares driver’s license suspension reports.Processes community service requests.Process’s school completion certificates.Prepares court dockets; attends court hearings; processes court proceedings.Communicates and corresponds with law enforcement, Judicial Assistants and attorneys.Performs other duties as assigned including problem-solving and continuous process improvement.

    SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
    SUPERVISORY CONTROLS The Traffic Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of the final results. GUIDELINES Guidelines include Florida statutes, traffic rules and regulations, county ordinances, and division policies and procedures. These guidelines are generally clear and specific but may require some interpretation in application. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, walking, or stooping. The work is performed in an office or courtroom. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY None. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS High School Diploma or GED, supplemented by one (1) year of recent and relevant experience.Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of a high school diploma or equivalent.Ability to meet the public and effectively address their needs courteously, tactfully, and professionally. Possess the ability to cope with customers in impromptu situations.Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form and possess the ability to follow complex oral and written instructions.Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with co-workers, other governmental agencies, attorneys, judges and their assistants, businesses, and members of the general public.Ability to use a computer terminal to enter data quickly and accurately.Knowledge of a wide range of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures, office equipment, and terminology.Ability to learn and understand specialized information, including Florida state statutes, Florida Rules of Procedure, administrative orders, codes, policies, procedures, forms, and legal terms, and to apply that knowledge in carrying out job assignments accurately and efficiently. Ability to work with confidential and/or sensitive data and comply with state and federal guidelines.Ability to work in an environment that includes frequent interruptions and simultaneous detailed attention to multiple tasks.Ability to work within time constraints and workload surges. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions while maintaining speed and accuracy.Ability to sit or stand at the front counter for extended periods, while concentrating on repetitious or complex tasks. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of an associate’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
