    Overview:

    The Executive Director and Resource Development Officer (ED & RDO) is pivotal in leading the Community Health Coalition (CHC) organization and managing all aspects of resource development, grant writing, grant reporting, executive leadership, and strategic direction for our health education-centric nonprofit agency in Durham, NC. This position combines the responsibilities of a Resource Development Officer with those of an Executive Director, providing leadership, oversight, and strategic guidance to advance our mission of promoting health and health equity advocacy.

    Key Responsibilities:

    1. Leadership and Strategic Oversight:

    • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction to advance the mission of the organization.
    • Supervise all staff members and ensure the efficient functioning of day-to-day operations in alignment with the mission.
    • Oversee the direction and management of existing health education programs while actively seeking and developing new opportunities for community impact, including messaging triage and other relevant initiatives.
    • Actively engage as a leader with the community and represent CHC on community task forces, committees, and boards.
    • Attend all board meetings regularly and deliver comprehensive reports and updates on organizational strategy, human resources, ongoing projects, project timelines, and organizational progress.
    • Facilitate open communication during board meetings, engaging with board members as necessary to address inquiries and provide clarification on reported information.

    2. Resource Development:

    • Lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive fundraising plan to secure funding for CHC programs and initiatives.
    • Cultivate relationships with donors, including individuals, groups, foundations, corporations, and government agencies.
    • Identify and pursue new funding opportunities, including grant writing and securing major gifts.
    • Collaborate with the board and staff to develop and implement donor strategy.

    3. Financial Management:

    • Work closely with accounting services to create and adhere to the budget.
    • Ensure grant funding is expended as directed by the donors.
    • Meet regularly with the financial consultants and CHC bookkeeper to oversee financial records.
    • Review financial reports and maintain an understanding of CHC’s financial health.

    4. Community Engagement and Outreach:

    • Develop and maintain partnerships with collaborative partners, funders, and stakeholders.
    • Represent CHC at community events, promotional activities, and media communications.
    • Conduct outreach to create awareness of CHC's activities and initiatives in the community.

    5. Fundraising, Grant Writing and Reporting:

    • Develop and coordinate aggressive fundraising strategies to reach individuals, corporations, foundations, city, state, and federal funding sources, and other private, public, and nonprofit entities via annual giving, major gifts, planned giving initiatives, and endowment-building activities.
    • Research, write, edit, and submit grant proposals and reports to secure funding from various sources.
    • Ensure timely and accurate grant reporting and provide stewardship to donors.
    • Oversee the training and mentoring of interns, independent contractors, and staff in grant writing and reporting.

    Required Qualifications:

    Candidates may come from diverse backgrounds, including nonprofit, foundation, government, or industry sectors, and should demonstrate the following qualities:

    • Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree preferred.
    • Must have at least five (5) years of direct fundraising experience. A minimum of five (5) years of management experience (preferably in a nonprofit environment) and at least three (3) years in senior leadership or executive management.
    • Demonstrate proficiency in business strategy and a track record of successfully driving organizational growth, coupled with strong leadership capabilities and the aptitude for fostering productive collaborations with staff, board members, volunteers, and community stakeholders—knowledge of the Research Triangle, North Carolina business landscape.
    • Demonstrate success in cultivating donor relationships and securing funding from diverse sources.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex concepts for various audiences.
    • Knowledge of the Research Triangle, North Carolina business landscape.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and familiarity with digital and social media marketing concepts.
    • Ability to travel on behalf of the organization as needed.
