INTERNAL - Machinist – Tool Room (Tool and Die Maker)

    ROLE OBJECTIVE
    As a Tool and Die Maker at Wilson Tool, you must have an in-depth knowledge of metalwork and engineering, a good eye for detail, and the ability to visualize how the work you are doing and fixtures you are making will assist manufacturing to achieve quality and delivery goals. A top-class tool and die maker is able to translate ideas into expertly crafted metal forms made to the tightest tolerances ready for the manufacturing process.
    You will utilize your extensive machining expertise to set up, operate, and adjust various machines, specializing in complex machining operations. Execute complex set-ups independently, enhance existing programs, and create new ones using multiple CAM packages and G/M code programming, contribute to continuous improvement, and provide mentorship.
    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    • Reads and interpret blueprints including GD&T.
    • Hold tolerances to 4 decimal place tolerances on unique product designs on a daily basis.
    • Interprets both verbal and written instructions and can manufacture a component by determining the required specifications.
    • Perform, setup and operation of all types of machine shop tools, considering types of materials and cutting tools, tolerances, coolants, lubricants, and machine tool feeds and speeds.
    • Determines specifications for inspection of work performed.
    • Use precision measuring and gaging tools to perform required inspections before, during and after machining.
    • Set-up and operate all tool room equipment (i.e., surface grinding, ID/OD grinding EDM, CNC and manual milling, CNC and Manual lathe, etc.).
    • Create complex custom CAM programs and/or write macros efficiently from scratch.
    • Troubleshooting of tools, and record keeping of all tool development activity.
    • Provide support for all production tooling needs.
    • Respond to shop-floor calls in a timely manner.
    • Perform preventative maintenance as required.
    • Understand all tooling components functions so that the highest possible run time and quality can be maintained.
    • When necessary use CAD software.
    • Participates in and sustains 5S to maintain a clean and organized work area, free of clutter and safety hazards.
    • Must contribute to Wilson Tool’s culture of continuous improvement.
    • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

    REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
                Technical Skills
    • Diploma or AAS degree in the machine trades or equivalent combination of aptitude, education, certification and or experienced body of knowledge that will meet this requirement.
    • Proficiency in G/M Code, CAM, Machinist Math, GD&T, and Inspection methods.
      • CAM - Gibbs Cam Preferred
    • Minimum of three – five years of relevant machining experience.
    • Demonstrated success in technical math skills (Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry).
    • Ongoing training in relevant technology.
    • CMM experience helpful.
    Machining Abilities
    • Demonstrated ability to accurately use and set up advanced measuring tools.
    • Demonstrated ability to hold 4 decimal place tolerances on unique product designs on a daily basis.
    • Understanding of tool grade material properties and the best way to machine.
    • Strong mechanical aptitude.
    Computer Skills
    • Basic computers skills with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point, and internet navigation.
    • CAD - Solid Works experience preferred but not required.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    WORK SCHEDULE
    • Full time: Monday – Friday, typically day shift, determined by business need.

    COMPENSATION
    • Pay scale consists of Tool Maker/R&D PayScale, plus shift premium if appropriate.
