Job Overview
Shop Assistant/Machine Operator will provide assistance in duties such as material sourcing, cutting, and disposal of applicable projects. The shop assistant will be tasked with other basic responsibilities to include machine upkeep, operating machines and equipment, and assisting other machinists. This is an entry level position with upward mobility after adequate presentation of willingness to learn and progression of skills.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties & Job Functions:
● Support machinist with finding material, material cutting, chip disposal, deburring, clean up and odd jobs.
● Operate equipment in a safe manner.
● Using your hands to handle, control or feel objects, tools or controls.
● Report areas of concern to Shop lead.
● Machine upkeep, coolant maintenance.
● Variety of standing and walking throughout the day; repeated twisting at the torso while regularly lifting .
● One on one guidance and participation from an Intermediate or Senior Machinist is required during ALL instances of learning set ups, making ANY offset changes or when changing ANY cutting tools.
● Issues or problems that arise with a program must be referred to a Senior Machinist or Supervisor for resolution.
● Ability to operate a forklift.
● Pushing, pulling of up to 20 pounds and occasionally lifting of 30 - 50 pounds.
● Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, fumes and dust particles.
● Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Desired Skills:
● Understand and conform to relevant areas of the Quality Manual, Quality Procedures, and training.
● Understand and input all relevant process and IPC data into Pro Shop/Part Level during part run.
● Accurate and complete time tracking with achievement of expected “Time Against WorkOrder” targets.
● Understand and be certified for the use and care of basic metrology (I.E. micrometers, etc).
● Understand and read blueprints (I.E. part views, definitions and footnotes).
● Be attentive and prompt to load and unload production parts at beginning or end ofsingle or flow cycle, as well as, keep up with offline support tasks (I.E. deburring, sawing, bead blasting, insert installations, etc).
● Achieve the “manufacturing target times” specified at the part level.
● Maintain awareness about cutting tool malfunctions, burr development, chip evacuation and coolant flow problems. Report areas of concern to an Intermediate or Senior level Machinist.
● Ability to stand for long periods of time.
● Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
