Telecommunications Technician maintains an organization's telecommunications network to ensure dependable operation. Monitors network systems and performs diagnostic tests to document and report performance levels. Position Summary:
The Technician I position will provide field support for cellular radio installation that includes; on site supervision, equipment delivery coordination, path alignment coordination, and equipment installation. The employee reports to a Project or Operations Manager in the Operations Department.
Job Functions:
1. Individual assigned to this position will be familiar with and enforce the Company’s policies and procedures.

5. Will work independently, with minimal guidance or assistance, and requires organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.
6. With the appropriate level of knowledge and experience, may be asked to provide instruction, assistance, and guidance to other technicians.
7. The Technician I will use sophisticated electronic test equipment, measuring devices, meters and hand tools in analyzing, adjusting, installing, wiring, repairing, maintaining and testing wireless, transmission, and associated equipment. Use of this capital equipment will be done with extreme care, ensuring damage does not occur.
8. Will be involved with the installation of microwave radio based transport systems. The systems may include; SONET Multiplexers, 3/1 Multiplexers, various NMS/telemetry devices, cable and fiber management systems
9. May be required to perform installation of DC power systems and basic grounding system maintenance.
10. Will carry out or assist with coax / waveguide sweeps, path alignment, and testing.
11. Perform routine maintenance on radio and support equipment.
12. Performs manual or electronic cross-connect function.
13. Operates Personal Computer, or similar devices, to access required systems and equipment to perform translations, to create, modify, and/or correct database contents, i.e. cell translations, microwave system analysis, Digital Cross Connect administration/operation.
14. Install cable and program new equipment at site locations by maintaining proper cable management and loading configuration files into power management system, servers and other devices located with the cabinet
15. Assist with determining the cause of equipment failure using various types of complex test equipment.
16. Commission new sites into the network by working with remote team to test functionality and alarms.
17. Test various radios for signal strength and basic functionality.
18. Performs required incidental and preventative maintenance on cell site, power equipment, transmission, and associated equipment, and completes necessary logs, reports and postings.
19. Assist with resolving customer related issues and visit customer location as necessary to ensure 100% satisfaction.
20. Maintain project documentation with a very high level of accuracy.
21. The Technician may be assigned to 24-hour x 7 day "on call" duty. When assigned, will respond to all callouts and assist Company and customer field personnel in resolving a system problem.
Job Requirements:
Educations: Technical school or associates degree in electronics is preferred.
Experience: Four-to-five years’ experience in the telecommunications transport industry performing installation activities or military experience is preferred.
Qualifications: Experience with the installation and/or maintenance of telecom transport equipment, possessing working knowledge of transport system technologies such as; microwave radio, fiber optic/SONET, multiplexers, DACS, T1/T3 services, and ATM. In addition, the technician will be proficient, in compliance, or able to accommodate the following:
§ Basic knowledge of pertinent FCC / FAA / OSHA regulations.
§ DC power and alarm systems.
§ Cellular network architecture and operations.
§ Ability to manage multiple activities and projects with high degree of success.
§ Prepare, read and interpret engineering documentation such as wiring lists, rack elevations, DC wiring diagrams, Path Data Sheets.
§ Knowledge and proper utilization of various pieces of test equipment to include: BER Tests, Spectrum Analyzers, Power Meters, Frequency Counters, and DVMs.
§ Aptitude using Microsoft Office products such as Excel, Word, Visio, Project.
§ Capacity to work independently and within a team environment.
§ Ability to work within time constraints/deadlines, utilizing exceptional organizational abilities.
§ Able to travel with extended overnight stays. Occasionally, may require weekend / holiday work.
§ Can work legally in the U.S.
Preferred Skills: The incumbent must have excellent communication skills both orally and written. Shall possess the ability to make decisions and act on those decisions in a remote environment thereby ensuring the project remains on schedule and meets the required deadline without undue delay. Excellent conflict resolution skills are necessary. The incumbent shall be fully capable of collecting, reviewing, evaluating and determining that all phases of the installation process on a specific project are within the guidelines and expectations of the leadership team, project charter, and as outlined in the Scope of Work (SOW).

Requirements: Ability to distinguish between colors, read printed material, lift/carry 70 pounds, climb ladders, able to kneel, stoop, crouch, or work in other uncomfortable positions to accomplish tasks. Must have good hand/eye coordination and be able to work with hand tools. Must be qualified to drive a company vehicle as well as possess safe driving skills.
