Technical Librarian develops and maintains a collection of technical information and provides research and reference support to researchers, scientists, and engineers. Builds an extensive network of technical information resources and contacts from various sources like government agencies, universities, professional and industry associations to obtain the required information. Being a Technical Librarian communicates with researchers to develop and maintain a broad knowledge and understanding of the organization's relevant topics and effectively target technical publications as information sources. Creates abstracts, bibliographies, and metadata to classify the information. Additionally, Technical Librarian obtains translations of literature as needed. Supports and maintains the library's technology infrastructure and information retrieval tools. Typically requires a master's degree in library science. Typically reports to a manager. The Technical Librarian work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Technical Librarian typically requires 0-2 years of related experience.     The City of Chandler Library Division is currently seeking qualified individuals interested in joining our team as a Librarian. This is a regular, full-time, exempt position with benefits. The location will be at the Sunset Library Branch. The Sunset Library is open seven (7) days and three (3) evenings per week. This a 40-hour position with a schedule that includes nights and weekends.

    Work Schedule

    A weekly schedule includes one (1) evening per week and one (1) weekend per month.

    • Bachelor's Degree in Library Science or related field; and
    • 3 years of paraprofessional library experience including one (1) year of previous supervisory experience; and
    • Arizona State Teaching Certification and Arizona State School Library Endorsement required depending on assignment (Not required for this location); and
    • A valid Driver's License with acceptable driving record; or
    • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Master's Degree in Library Science

    This is a regular full-time position, subject to a six (6) month probationary period. A register of qualified candidates will be active for four (4) months should another position become available.

    The City of Chandler will conduct a pre-employment driving record check as a condition of employment. An offer of employment is contingent upon acceptable results. All applicants hired will be required to be fingerprinted with successful results as a condition of continued employment.
