Job Summary

• Clinic Evaluation of New Patients: Mondays and Wednesdays, 7:00am – 3:30pm
• Operating Room Schedule: Mondays and Wednesdays, 7:00am – 3:30pm
• On-call Nights: Coverage during Monday and Wednesday evenings/nights from 3:30pm to 7:00am the next day
• On-call Days: Coverage during days when the clinic is closed, weekends, and holidays, 7:00am to 7:00am the next day (24-hour coverage)

Primary Responsibilities

• Conduct initial patient evaluations in inpatient, outpatient, and Emergency Department (ED) settings.
• Perform surgical procedures in the Operating Room, including Open-Heart Cardiothoracic Surgery.
• Provide post-operative care, including follow-up consultations and management.
• Conduct Cardiothoracic Surgery Consultations, including evaluating patients for surgery and making recommendations.
• Perform Permanent Pacemaker Implant procedures in emergency cases.
• Serve as backup for Pacemaker Lead Extraction procedures.
• Conduct Pericardial Window and/or Pericardiectomy Procedures.
• Act as backup for Interventional Cardiology procedures (PCI).

Minimum Qualifications

• Possess a current license to practice medicine in any State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States or the District of Columbia when services are performed onsite on VA property.
• Board Certified/Board Eligible by the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or equivalency.
• Maintain up-to-date continuing education courses required for certification.
