    Role of the Director of Food Services:

    This position’s main objective is to assist the Dietitian in overseeing the Food Services Department, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Working under the guidance of the Administrator, the role involves planning, organizing, and directing operations to deliver high-quality nutritional services daily while upholding cleanliness, safety, and sanitation standards within the department.

    Responsibilities of the Director of Food Services:

    • Developing and implementing menus that meet the dietary needs of residents, while also taking into account preferences and allergies.
    • Overseeing the preparation, presentation, and delivery of meals in a timely and efficient manner.
    • Supervising and training kitchen staff in proper food preparation techniques, safety procedures, and sanitation practices.
    • Monitoring food and supply inventory to ensure adequate stock levels and minimize waste.
    • Working closely with dietitians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure that residents' dietary requirements are being met.
    • Managing departmental budgets and expenses to achieve financial goals.
    • Maintaining compliance with state and federal regulations related to food safety and sanitation.
    • Collaborating with other departments to coordinate meal service schedules and special event catering.
    • Participating in quality improvement initiatives to continuously improve food service operations.
    • Providing leadership and support to the food service team, fostering a positive work environment and encouraging professional development.

    Qualifications and Requirements for the Director of Food Services position:

    • High school diploma required.
    • Graduate of an accredited dietetic training course approved by the American Dietetic Association.
    • Minimum five (5) years of supervisory experience in a hospital, nursing care facility, or related medical facility.
    • Training in cost control, food management, and diet therapy required.
    • Registered as a Food Service Director in the state.
    • Proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding English.
    • Ability to make independent decisions and handle interactions tactfully.
    • Knowledge of food service practices, regulations, and guidelines in nursing care facilities.
    • Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
    • Patient, tactful, and enthusiastic in working with residents.
    • Open to learning and implementing new methods and principles.
    • Ability to interpret financial data and communicate resident conditions effectively.
