Software Architect is responsible for the structural design and development of new software systems or extensive software revisions for external customers. Analyzes software requirements and defines system components to ensure efficient and scalable software architecture. Being a Software Architect designs and implements software solutions to consider business and technical needs and ensures compatibility with existing systems. Creates and maintains architecture documentation such as design specifications and diagrams to guide future maintenance and development. Additionally, Software Architect works with non-technical stakeholders to analyze requirements and understand constraints, dependencies, and business needs. Has in-depth knowledge of software development processes and methodologies. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Software Architect work is highly independent. May assume a team lead role for the work group. A specialist on complex technical and business matters. To be a Software Architect typically requires 7+ years of related experience. The Functional Architect is a functional expert for an application, a defined set of applications or a portfolio of related applications. The Functional Architect must understand all aspects of their specific application(s), and the underlying business process.
Responsibilities- Working closely with Business partners to understand the strategic vision, goals, and prioritization of work.
- Providing guidance and strategy on improving any and all applications currently in, or to be added to, the DOE portfolio based on Business priorities.
- Bringing an understanding of the enterprise, business system, and industry to the team(s) supporting or interfacing with the application.
- You will act as the application(s) functional expert; providing expertise in the business process supported by the application, preparing and reviewing designs, recommending improvements, and providing guidance during the development and testing process.
- You will be responsible to plan, analyze, and define high- level software strategies and solutions. This involves working closely with the Technical Architects to define technical requirements and long-range plans for meeting customers.
- You will be expected to clearly communicate the program/application goals, operational and organizational philosophies, and policies and procedures to the Technical Architects and Development team as well as Communicate to team members the relationships between their work and assignments and the organizational and/ or program objectives.
- You will promote quality standards and best practices.
- Five plus years of relevant industry experience
- Preferred Education: 4 year college degree or equivalent technical study
- Solid experience working with customer business units to understand their business processes and to identify the direction of software and ensure business requirements are supported by the software. Strong preference will be given to candidates with Education Data systems experience.
- Proven experience with understanding and communicating specific business needs, program/application goals, operational and organizational philosophies, policies and procedures, and overall business strategy of the business customer to Technical Architects and Development teams.
- Proven experience collaborating with a high-level architect team as software/hardware requirements are planned and delivered
- Proven experience acting as the primary point of contact between Business and IT teams.
- Experience working with an Agile Development team. (Product Owner experience is a plus)
- Significant experience with organizing and preparing work effectively to facilitate proactive resolution of problems.
- Practice standard, well-structured work planning and ensuring that overall application designs remain within project scope.
- Demonstrable understanding of prioritization work based on business needs request/releases for work affecting an application.
