Role Description

This is a full-time on-site role as a Freight Forwarder Coordinator at NOVA SHIPPING in West Bloomfield Township, MI. As a Freight Forwarder Coordinator, you will be responsible for managing day-to-day logistics operations, coordinating freight shipments, handling import and export processes, and providing excellent customer service. Attention to detail and effective communication will be key in ensuring smooth and efficient transportation of cargo.

Responsibilities:

• Coordinate and process import and export shipments in a timely manner.
• Schedule ocean and air bookings for hazardous and nonhazardous materials, general and special cargo shipments.
• Negotiate cost-effective rates with service providers to maximize profitability.
• Arrange for pick-up or inland transportation of goods and prepare necessary shipping documents.
• Track and trace shipments to their final destinations.
• Process data through the company's system and obtain shipment releases and other necessary documents.
• Update company's system for client online portals and maintain communication with vendors, shippers, and carriers.
• Resolve customer service inquiries related to tracking and tracing and ensure client requirements are met.
• Report problems, disputes, or discrepancies to the project manager.
• Resolve billing discrepancies and disputes.
• Maintain a thorough understanding of international transportation regulations.
• Identify transactions and tasks requiring special handling and recommend improved processes.
• Support the company's success and compliance through individualized assignments.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or business preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years relevant experience in freight forwarding.
• 1 to 3 years of current work experience in ocean and air freight forwarding preferred.
• Thorough understanding of principles and methods for moving goods by air, sea, train, or land.
• Prior experience with CargoWise/Magaya/INTTRA is a plus.
• Strong computer skills, including MS Outlook, Excel, and Word.
• Excellent math skills and ability to calculate freight measurements and weights.
• Familiarity with domestic and international geography, including countries, major cities, and ports.
• Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work productively and remain calm under pressure.
• Strong preference for candidates who are fluent in both English and Spanish (written and spoken)
• Effective communication skills in Spanish will be considered an asset
• Ability to communicate with clients/vendors and stakeholders.
• Effective organizational skills and ability to learn new applications quickly.
