Job Description
Position: SCHOOL NURSE
Qualifications- R.N./LPN or equivalent
- Experience in school health service preferred.
- Must be knowledge about and sensitive to Lakota culture and value.
- Must possess effective human relation skills.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
JOB GOAL: To provide quality school health care services for all students and staff.
Performance Responsibilities- Participate in the development and revision of policies and procedures of the school health program.
- Identify health problems of students through health appraisals, health histories, health records and screening programs.
- Assist physicians with physical examinations or other professional personnel with evaluations conducted in school.
- Participate in first aid care of emergencies and assume responsibility for follow-up with school personnel and parents regarding health problems and emergencies.
- Participate in joint planning and implementation of individual education programs for children with special health needs.
- Assume responsibility for securing and adhering to standing orders as provided by Indian Health Service Physicians.
- Assist parents in identifying and utilizing appropriate community and private resources for professional care.
- Contribute to the health instruction program by acting as a resource person through in-service training and providing current information on health related topics.
- Maintain records and documents activities in a prescribed manner.
- Assumes responsibility for own growth and development; for keeping current with the literature, new research findings, and improved techniques; for attending appropriate professional meetings and conferences.
- Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year will be established by the Oglala Lakota County School Board.
