Safety Director directs, develops, and oversees the general health and safety policies and procedures of the organization. Ensures the workplace is in compliance with OSHA and other state, local, or industry specific regulations and that periodic safety audits are conducted. Being a Safety Director provides programs that ensure a safe workplace including safety orientations, skill training, emergency preparedness, proper job instruction, hazardous material disposal procedures, and the use of protective equipment. Develops a systemic process to collect data and analyze the causes of accidents and generate required reporting. Additionally, Safety Director implements initiatives to reduce and prevent accidents, occupational illnesses, and exposure to long-term health hazards. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to top management. The Safety Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function. To be a Safety Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience.     Job Description



    The Director of Nursing position is responsible for the psychiatric hospital’s nursing administration and clinical nursing services. This position provides leadership, direction and supervision to nursing staff. The Director of Nursing is responsible for assuring patients receive quality and timely treatment through nursing staff, including nurses, nurse managers and residential care aides, seven days a week 24 hours a day. The Director of Nursing develops, implements and evaluates the nursing services, policies and programs assuring compliance with accreditation standards, state and federal laws/regulations, and hospital operating guidelines. This position is a key member of the hospital’s executive leadership and decision making for the hospital.

    This position will function as the Director of Nursing for Kalamazoo Psychiatrist Hospital (KPH). While these combinations are not required to qualify for the classification, the selected individual will need to possess the following combinations of education, experience, and/or licensure to be successful in this position:

    EXPERIENCE: Three years of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse 14 or Registered Nurse Manager 14, or two years equivalent to a Registered Nurse Manager 15 or Registered Nurse Director 15.

    ALTERNATE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Possession of a master's degree in nursing and two years of experience equivalent to Registered Nurse 14 or Registered Nurse Manager 14; or possession of a master's degree in nursing with one year of experience equivalent to a Registered Nurse Manager 15 or Registered Nurse Director 15 may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Nursing experience in behavioral health, mental health, and or psychiatric treatment.

    LICENSURE: Possession of a Michigan Registered Nurse license in good standing.

    Required Education and Experience

    Possession of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. Master's degree in Nursing, MPA, MBA, Master's degree in behavioral health care preferred.

    Two years of experience as a professional manager or program/staff specialist, or
    equivalent experience.

    Alternate Education and Experience
    Education level typically acquired through completion of high school and three years of
    safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 14 level; or, two years of
    safety and regulatory or law enforcement experience at the 15 level, may be substituted
    for the education and experience requirements.

    Paid Parental Leave: Eligible employees can take 12 weeks of paid leave immediately after a birth or adoption to allow needed time together at home with a new child.
