    Summary of Job Duties:The University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture (UADA) is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as Associate Director for Research Development and Compliance within the Arkansas Agricultural Experiment Station (AAES). The Associate Director will also hold the title of Associate Vice President for Agriculture-Research in the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture. The position will be located in Fayetteville, Arkansas, at the Milo J Shult Agricultural Research and Extension Center. The successful candidate will be part of AAES administrative team and lead efforts to expand AAES' research portfolio and ensure AAES is in full compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. The position reports to the Senior Associate Vice President for Agriculture-Research (Director, AAES). Appointment of the Associate Director to a professorial rank with tenure will be considered If the successful candidate has appropriate academic credentials.

    The Associate Director will oversee the operation of pre-awards for the AAES sponsored programs office and research development activities. The position will administer all internal grant programs, limited grant submissions and faculty development programs in grantsmanship. In addition, the position is responsible for research compliance, including export control, IACUC, agricultural and laboratory safety, and research integrity. The Associate Director will coordinate departmental program reviews and federal reporting to NIFA. The position has supervisory responsibility for the AAES Sponsored Research Staff, including a research development specialist and 4 pre- and post- award grants specialists. In addition, the Associate Director will supervise the Agricultural IACUC administrator and the agricultural and laboratory safety officer.

    Duties and Responsibilities:
    Research Development: The position is charged with facilitating AAES efforts to increase extramural funding to $35M or more annually (FY20-23 average: $25.2M) within the next 5 years.
    1.Serves as main administrator for internal funding programs. These programs currently include the Arkansas Biosciences Institute (ABI), the Research Incentive Grants and the Animal Health Fund. Duties include calling for proposals, proposal reviews, development of funding recommendations, and management of interim and final research reports. The Associate Director serves as the ABI Institutional Director for the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture.
    2.Administers internal competitions for federal limited submissions.
    3.Organizes annual grantsmanship training workshops and consulting activities.
    4.Oversees and guides the work of the newly appointed Research Development Specialist and the AAES Sponsored Research Office pre-award staff. Includes workflow process assessment and improvements based on user feedback and regular reporting on submissions and awards.

    Research Compliance and Reporting: The position provides leadership for research compliance and reporting for AAES.
    1.Supervises the Agricultural IACUC administrator. Attends committee meetings as available, works with the IACUC administrator to ensure that facility and program reviews are performed in a timely manner. Works to ensure that issues related to animal welfare are addressed promptly.
    2.Coordinates with University of Arkansas at Fayetteville Export Control personnel. Provides training to faculty and staff traveling abroad. Screens foreign visitors visiting AAES facilities.
    3.Oversees investigations and enquiries on allegations of research misconduct. The position serves as the Research Integrity Officer for UADA.
    4.Supervises the Agricultural Safety/Laboratory Officer to ensure that research and farm personnel are appropriately trained, that safety audit findings are addressed promptly, and that chemical and bio-hazard waste are properly disposed of.
    5.Coordinates for AAES the writing of the annual federal report of accomplishment for NIFA
    6.Coordinates departmental external reviews for UADA.Qualifications:

    Qualifications:

    • PhD in an agricultural or related discipline.
    • Experience in a faculty role at a land-grant university.
    • Record of successful grantsmanship at the federal level.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Credentials to hold the title of Professor with tenure in an academic unit of the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences.
    • Leadership experience in a College of Agriculture (e.g. Department Head, Assistant or Associate Dean).
    • Experience in sponsored research and research development management.
    • Experience in research compliance management.
