We are seeking a dynamic and flexible Director of Attorney Recruiting who will be responsible for all aspects of on-campus recruiting, the Firm’s summer associate program and lateral attorney recruiting. This position may be based out of our Detroit, MI or Chicago, IL office with potential remote flexibility.
On-Campus Recruiting and Summer Associate Program Management:
• Work with Summer Associate Committee to develop and implement an overall recruiting strategy for on-campus recruiting
• Develop ongoing relationships with law school career placement directors; serve as the Firm’s primary contact with law school career placement departments
• Maintain regular contact with career placement departments including annual meetings to discuss the legal market
• Market Firm to potential law school recruits directly and in coordination with the Firm’s Marketing Group
• Source appropriate candidates through law school placement directors and various campus organizations
• Manage all aspects of the on-campus recruiting process
• Work closely with the diversity director to ensure the Firm’s diversity goals are advanced in the recruiting process
• Oversee and coordinate the campus and call-back interview processes
• Screen all unsolicited resumes for qualified candidates attending schools the Firm does not visit
• Prepare offer letters and manage on-boarding of new associates
• Manage the planning of summer associate programs and related events
• Coordinate performance review process for summer associates
• Prepare agenda for Hiring Committee meetings; coordinate/schedule committee meetings; attend and participate in meetings; provide support for committee
• Keep abreast of current recruiting practices and maintain membership in the National Association for Law Placement (NALP)
• Coordinate bar review and exam process
Lateral Recruiting and On-Boarding:
• Work with practice group leaders to determine short-term and long-term lateral hiring needs
• Analyze and report on market trends in attorney recruiting
• Source candidates through the Firm’s database, referrals, outside recruiters, professional social media, job boards, websites and direct recruiting
• Develop relationships with search firms and negotiate search firm agreements
• Manage lateral hire process including identifying and presenting appropriate candidates to the Firm, coordinating interviews, collecting and analyzing due diligence materials and drafting and extending offer letters
• Manage the placement process from the introduction of candidates to the offer and acceptance stage
• Ensure compliance with Firm hiring practices and ethical requirements, including screening requirements
• Work closely with the diversity director to ensure the Firm’s diversity goals are advanced in the recruiting process
• Ensure the successful integration of all new attorneys from group placement, orientation and assignment of mentors
Other:
• Oversee development, implementation and updating of hiring policies and procedures
• Prepare and analyze demographic information/hiring statistics
• Prepare and monitor annual recruiting budget
• Maintain and update recruiting portion of Firm website
An ideal candidate has:
• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university
• Law degree is helpful but not necessary
• 10 years legal recruiting experience
• Excellent written and oral communications skills
