Role Overview
The Radiation Control Technician provides radiological safety support coverage for the remediation activities, maintenance, operational, and routine work for the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP). https://www.mvs.usace.army.mil/Missions/FUSRAP/
The RCT position monitors work area for radiation and contamination as required by procedures and regulations. Specialty instruments are used to monitor and control environmental radiation as well as protection personnel and surrounding community.
Radiation Control Technicians are authorized to conduct and oversee the execution of surveys for free release of materials, contamination, and radioactivity to categorize waste for shipment. The RCT provides work coverage and enforces principles and control requirements for the work crews. This position validates safe conduct of radiological work in confines of facility or project site and surveys materials and vehicles as needed.
Preferred candidates would have experience in performing MARSSIM-type radiological surveys and be proficient in the use of associated portable instrumentation and laboratory health physics equipment. In addition, the RCT will need general radiological controls experience and understand of radiation safety concepts to provide oversight of activities including radioactive materials and changing work conditions.

Qualifications
· Have a high school diploma and documented relative experience or 1 year of FUSRAP specific relatable field experience.
· Military experience in Navy power systems, Navy nuclear program/training, CBRN training and other related military experience and training are highly valued and may substitute for years of experience.
· May substitute education for years of experience with a degree in a related field (Radiation Protection, Physics or related science).
· Preference given to those able to meet the radiation control technician criteria specified in ANSI N18.1-1971 for the specialty of radiation protection,
· Preference given to those that have completed relative SRHP examination/training (NRRPT, Navy ELT, CBRN)
· Must have a reading and comprehension level, as well as written and verbal communication skills, sufficient to read, understand, and implement procedures, prepare survey maps, and prepare forms,
· Must be physically capable of working outdoors conducting radiological surveys and sampling.

· Must be able to pass comprehensive physical, drug test and background check
· Must have a valid driver’s license and clean driving record
· Physically fit for outdoor work – 90% outdoors, able to lift up to 40 lbs
· Required to work 40hrs/week- 10hr days Monday through Thursday
· Available for Overtime paid at overtime rate (1.5)
