QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER is responsible for the implementation of policies and procedures to ensure adherence to production quality standards. Monitors and audits process, material, and product testing against established standards and conducts a continuous analysis of quality defects and deviations. Being a QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER identifies deficiencies or gaps in testing activities and develops solutions to ensure adequate and robust quality processes. Optimizes processes to comply with existing and new regulatory requirements. Additionally, QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a director. The QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGER typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Position is responsible for overseeing the food safety and quality programs within the plant. This role has the overall accountability of ensuring the applicable food safety and quality programs are fully implemented and documented to ensure USDA regulatory compliance and the production of safe and wholesome products.

    Quality, Food Safety Verification and Compliance

    • Verifies that all Food Safety, Quality Assurance and Regulatory programs are functioning as designed, being followed and correctly documented – thus ensuring the facility has the requirements to prove the products being produced are safe, wholesome and meet Quality Pork International’s (and/or customer) quality specifications.
    • Investigates product/process failure, determines the root cause and takes prompt corrective actions; while minimizing product exposure and production down time.
    • Demonstrates practical knowledge of all applicable QA and Food Safety programs and applies them throughout daily responsibilities to make sound decisions and execute food safety & quality oversight.
    • Develops and fosters a strong working relationship with plant management, production employees and the USDA.
    • Continues to ensure SQF procedures and certifications.

    Food Safety and Quality Improvement

    • Ensures HACCP, SSOP, process and product quality specification success by working with QA staff members and Operations to drive continuous improvement of product through attention to process details, product specifications and production department programs.

    Sanitation

    · Conducts operational and pre-operational sanitation inspections, including micro sampling, inspection of cleanliness of equipment to verify the effectiveness of sanitation activities. The duties may include regular completion of Food Safety, CCP and sanitation paperwork that should ultimately result in no FS deviations. Conducts FMP and Sanitation audits as directed with documented corrective actions and follow-up, as necessary.

    • Investigates and takes action in response to negative micro and Shelf-Life data to drive improvement..

    Supervisory skills:

    Responsible for managing the work assignments and the training of quality assurance staff members.

    Qualifications:

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions.

    • Bachelor’s degree and 2 years’ experience in food safety or quality assurance; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience in RTE plant highly desirable.
    • Working knowledge of meat processing, preferred.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of USDA, HACCP, and SSOP requirements.
    • SQF or BRCGS Certified Expert, preferred.
    • Ability to uphold regulatory, company and customer standards.
    • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers.
    • Knowledge of Database software; Inventory software; Spreadsheet and Word Processing software preferred.
    • Strong oral and written communication skills.
    • Strong decision making and problem-solving skills.
    • Excellent planning and organizational skills with demonstrated multi-tasking and project management skills.
    • May be required to work extended hours and some Saturdays.
    • Ability to work well with others in dynamic environment.
    • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment
