Psychiatrist evaluates, diagnoses and treats patients with mental illnesses through a combination of personal counseling (psychotherapy), psychoanalysis, hospitalization, and/or medication. Performs initial psychiatric assessments, develops individualized care plans, and implements treatment for the patient. Being a Psychiatrist prescribes psychopharmacological medications as needed. Monitors and records client progress, and amends treatment plan according to patient response. Additionally, Psychiatrist requires a MD degree. Must have completed a psychiatry residency. Typically reports to a medical director. Typically requires board certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). Requires a state license to practice. POSITION SUMMARY: Provide assessment and medication management and associated administrative functions for BHcare clients.
ACCOUNTABLE AND RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FOLLOWING RESULTS:
• Provide initial (medical and/or behavioral health) evaluations and ongoing medication management according to recognized guidelines.
• May provide Suboxone inductions and ongoing prescribing and monitoring of Suboxone clients.
• Complete initial assessment and progress notes according to BHcare policy.
• Maintain active clinical collaborations with other psychiatrists, nurses and clinicians at BHcare, to be carried out in formal and informal meetings.
• Work closely with all clinical providers to participate in the production of improved performance standards.
• Provide telephone on-call service back-up for clients (may participate in the monthly OnCall Back-up).
• Review and prepare treatment plans for clients.
• Review/sign all treatment plans, APRN initial evaluations, clinician psychiatric evaluations, home care nursing orders, and complete all other required documentation.
• Complete physician emergency certificate when indicated.
• Document in and utilize electronic health record system (CareLogic) and on-line prescribing system (Doctor First).
• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Provide supervision for APRNs under a collaborative agreement at Ansonia and shoreline clinics as designated by the Medical Director.
• Provide consultation to Shoreline Family Health Center’s Behavioral Health Specialist and Primary Care Physicians and APRNs as designated by the Medical Director.
• Supervise PA and APRN students and help coordinate their rotations
• Adhere to agency policies and procedures, including ongoing compliance with accreditation standards and licensing board.
• Serve on internal and external committees as required.
• Meet productivity standards.
• Attend training sessions, workshops, and seminars as requested by supervisor, or as needed for professional development, or as required for accreditation or licensing.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
• May be required to use own vehicle on company business.
• Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
