  • The Production Manager / Plant Manager is responsible for managing the production & packaging of company products which include tempeh, miso, value-added tempeh products and may include other products as well. The Plant Manager will master the art of preparing tempeh and miso for fermentation, use company manufacturing equipment and follow company SOPs to complete tasks associated with the creation of company products and understand intricately how to carry out a successful fermentation of company products.

    Individuals applying for this role should be able to lift 50lbs, stand for elongated periods of time, and have substantial experience managing, employees scheduling employees successfully in a food production facility.

    The Plant Manager is responsible for managing Production Trainees, Production Workers, Production Leads and Production Managers to ensure job satisfaction and growth. The Plant Manager is responsible for all scheduling of employees in the facility and also coordinates all 3rd party contractors and ensures successful inbound and outbound shipments.

    The Plant Manager will be responsible for maintaining, managing, creating and implementing company programs associated with Certified Organic, SQF Fundamentals and other 3rd party certifications the company may choose to engage in. The Plant Manager will be responsible for passing relevant audits associated with these certifications.

    The Plant Manager shows exceptional attention to detail and proficiency in company SOPs, outstanding proficiency in working on & managing a team and is simultaneously committed to efficiency and the carrying out of successful company culture & core values.

    The Plant Manager will solicit interviews for, interview, hire and terminate production employees and ensure the successful ongoing operations of the production facility including ensuring order fulfillment is met. The Plant Manager is responsible for understanding company sales fulfillment needs and keeping up with the production & packaging of products associated with those needs.

    The Plant Manager will be responsible for maintaining manufacturing equipment in the facility, ensuring facility operations run smoothly and pay close attention to employee satisfaction.

    The Plant Manager will be responsible for all procurement needed to keep production running & managing the production cost of all products made at all times.

    The Plant Manager reports to the Operations Director. Review the following job description and direct any clarifying questions to the Operations Director of Project Umami.

    Food Production Worker will work at the company facility located at 2430 30th Street Boulder, CO.

    Accountabilities:

    Lead, Manage and Hold Accountable — 20%

    Accountable for the management and development of employees to ensure job satisfaction and growth.

    Quality Assurance / Quality Control — 20%

    Accountable to ensure continued & successful implementation of QA/QC Program, Certified Organic requirements and pass both 3rd Party SQF Fundamentals Food Safety Audit (93% or above) & the Certified Organic Audits.

    Plant Maintenance & Operations — 5%

    Train employees to follow SOPs to maintain equipment in accordance with company standards; ensure SOPs are followed & update as needed; oversee completion of equipment maintenance & QA/QC documentation as needed; work with 3rd parties to ensure maintenance needs are met; manage applicable construction products. Procure all ingredients, packaging & supplies needed to continue production. Work with Operations Director & Bookkeeper to ensure financial matters are in sync with facility operations matters

    Food Production — 11.25%

    Train employees to follow SOPs to produce products in accordance with company standards; ensure SOPs are followed & update as needed; oversee completion of production work & QA/QC documentation as needed

    Food Packaging — 11.25%

    Train employees to follow SOPs to package products in accordance with company standards; ensure SOPs are followed & update as needed; oversee completion of packaging work & QA/QC documentation as needed

    Cleaning — 11.25%

    Train employees to follow SOPs to clean the facility in accordance with company standards; ensure SOPs are followed & update as needed; oversee completion of cleaning work & QA/QC documentation as needed

    Fulfillment — 11.25%

    Train employees to follow SOPs to produce products in accordance with company standards; ensure SOPs are followed & update as needed; oversee completion of production work & QA/QC documentation as needed

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Lead, Manage and Hold Accountable — 20%

    1. Accountable for the management and development of employees to ensure job satisfaction and growth.

    2. Interview, hire and train all production staff

    3. Terminate employees when needs of the company are not being met and before issues arise

    4. Foster team-oriented environment and ensure employee satisfaction

    5. Plan & carry out team building events and activities

    Quality Assurance / Quality Control — 20%

    1. Accountable to ensure continued & successful implementation of QA/QC Program & Certified Organic Requirements

    2. Pass both 3rd Party SQF Fundamentals Food Safety Audit (93% or above) & the Certified Organic Audits.

    3. Ensure completion of all QA/QC Documentation & Production Documentation

    4. Ensure company products are produced and packaged within the quality standards of the company

    5. Accountable to complete training on all company SOPs

    6. Maintain, implement & enforce SOPs

    Plant Maintenance & Operations — 5%

    1. Train all employees to follow SOPs to maintain equipment in accordance with company standards; ensure SOPs are followed & update as needed

    2. Oversee completion of equipment maintenance & QA/QC documentation as needed

    3. Work with 3rd parties to ensure maintenance needs are met; manage applicable construction products

    Cleaning — 11.25%

    1. Train employees to follow SOPs to clean the facility in accordance with company standards

    2. Ensure SOPs are followed & update as needed

    3. Oversee completion of cleaning work & QA/QC documentation as needed

    4. Accountable to ensure successful company cleaning operations

    Fulfillment — 11.25%

    1. Train employees to follow SOPs to produce products in accordance with company standards

    2. Ensure SOPs are followed & update as needed

    3. Oversee completion of production work & QA/QC documentation as needed

    4. Accountable to ensure successful company fulfillment operations

    Training:

    The Plant Manager is responsible to learn all following company SOP sets (including Incubation).

    The Plant Manager is responsible for completing the following other training:

    - Food Safety Manager (8-hr online course) — Company Pays for training and reimburses for total of 8 hours after test is passed, employee completed training off-site outside of normal business hours

    - HACCP Certification (16-hr online course) — Company Pays for training and reimburses for total of 8 hours after test is passed, employee completes training off-site outside of normal business hours Metrics the Job is Required to Achieve

    - PCQI — PCQI Training through CDPHE — 2-day training — Company Pays for training, time spent training & training occurs during normal business hours

    - Renewal of Food Safety Certificates prior to expiration

    Measures of performance: Metrics the position is required to achieve.

    - All metrics required of Production Manager

    - Training production staff & hire new production staff

    - Generation & maintenance of successful, happy production team

    - Successful procurement

    - Certified Organic Audit

    - 3rd Party Food Safety Audit (e.g. SQF Fundamentals)

    Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

    Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year

    Expected hours: 55 per week
