Being a Professor - Special Education provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Special Education typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.   • Intensive Education Academy Inc. is actively seeking a Special Education Teacher to join our dedicated team. The teacher will play a crucial role in providing personalized instruction to students based on their Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs) and will actively contribute to the development and implementation of behavioral and instructional strategies tailored to each student's unique needs. In addition, the Teacher will cultivate a classroom environment that promotes productive learning, fosters positive behaviors, and encourages independence. It is imperative that the Teacher possesses the ability to establish empathetic and constructive relationships with students, staff, and parents within an educational setting. Furthermore, the Teacher should excel in teaching reading and exhibit strong classroom management skills. This is a full-time position aligned with the academic year, with potential opportunities to work within our Extended School Year program during the summer. The position reports directly to the Director of Education.

    QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIREMENTS

    • Promotes student engagement, independence, and interdependence in learning and facilitates a positive learning community.

    • Builds relationships with students and provides emotional support and crisis intervention when necessary.

    • Develops daily and alternate lesson plans.

    • Documents academic, behavioral, and social/emotional areas of student performance through data collection.

    • Participates in the development and implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs).

    • Drafts and implements IEP goals and objectives.

    • Assesses student learning provides feedback to students, and adjusts instruction accordingly.

    • Plans assessment strategies to document specific evidence of student learning.

    • Serves as a case manager and actively participates in P.P.T. meetings, I.E.P. reviews, and parent/teacher open houses and conferences.

    • Collaborates with colleagues and other co-workers daily to support a productive, creative, and positive work environment.

    • Co-teaches, consults, and collaborates with Special Subject Teachers (Art, Music, PE) and Related Service personnel to provide expertise in understanding student needs, IEPs, BIPs, Modifications, and Accommodations.

    • Maximizes instructional time by effectively managing routines and transitions.

    • Participates in school-wide events.

    • Meets the professional Common Core of Teaching for the State of Connecticut and adheres to the CT Code of Professional Responsibility for Teachers.

    • Is responsible for teaching and non-teaching duties as assigned by the Administration.

    Certification Requirements:

    • CT State Teacher Certification in Special Education (065, 165, 265)

    Education, Experience, and Other Requirements:

    Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, and a Master’s degree in Special Education is preferred.

    Strong behavior management skills and experience are required. Knowledge or experience working with children with diverse educational, social, and emotional needs is a plus. Candidates must have a positive attitude, excellent communication skills, demonstrate sound judgment, and the ability to establish effective rapport with students, families, and colleagues. The ability to work with students and colleagues from diverse ethnic, economic, educational, and religious backgrounds is requisite, as is a commitment to exceeding standards of professional and ethical practices and responsibilities.
