Professor - Philosophy teaches courses in the discipline area of philosophy. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being a Professor - Philosophy provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Professor - Philosophy typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and initiates research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Provides intellectual leadership and has made significant contributions to the field. May offer independent study opportunities and mentoring to students.     The Department of Criminal Justice at the University of New Haven invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor position beginning August 2023 or earlier.


    The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. A focus on such topics as administration of justice, criminal justice policy, criminal courts, prosecution and defense, judicial decision-making, sentencing, law and society, and legal aspects of criminal investigations is desirable. Our department embraces a wide range of methodological, analytic, and theoretical approaches. In addition, the faculty member will receive non-instructional credits for developing a research agenda and will engage in student advising and other activities as assigned by the department chair.


    Qualifications


    Areas of Specialization and Preferred Qualifications:


    Minimum requirement is a Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or another closely related social science field. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate:


    • A commitment to research, as evidenced by publications and a well-defined research agenda, and the ability to collaborate with undergraduate students, graduate students, and faculty on research projects
    • Teaching and research experience in such areas as administration of justice, criminal justice policy, criminal courts, prosecution and defense, judicial decision-making, sentencing, and legal aspects of criminal investigations.
    • Desire and ability to teach and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students in the areas noted above.
    • A commitment to experiential education, with inter- and intra-departmental collegiality and ability to work collaboratively with criminal justice agencies through research and training.
