Produce Clerk is responsible for assisting customers in the produce department of a grocery store. Answers questions and helps patrons find requested produce items. Being a Produce Clerk prepares items for display, ensures that display cases are adequately stocked and ensures freshness of produce. Handles produce items in a safe manner and ensures that the department is always clean and neat. Additionally, Produce Clerk may require a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Produce Clerk may require 0-1 year of general work experience. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. Essential Functions
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Conduct yourself in a professional manner, displaying a positive attitude,
speaking highly of the company in the presence of customers and other
employees
Follow established Personal Appearance policies and guidelines
Understand and adhere to policies and procedures
Understand and adhere to polices and procedures pertaining to shrink
Understand and adhere to company policies and procedures that pertain to
product dating and rotation
Understand and adhere to policies and procedures pertaining to sanitation
Understand and adhere to polices and procedures pertaining to temperature logs
Unload produce trucks using a powered or manual pallet jack and transfer the
pallets to the cooler storage area to be broken down ( must be at least 18 years
of age to operate powered equipment)
Wash, trim and, if necessary, wrap produce
Maintain sufficient stock levels in produce and nutrition
Identify and dispose of all produce which is no longer suitable for sale per
company guidelines
Rotate all product in produce and nutrition
Clean produce and nutrition shelves and cases
Keep produce and back room floor areas swept and mopped, and the mirrors
polished (this involves contact with water and various cleaning products)
Maintain a clean and safe department
Help prepare for and conduct inventory
The Produce Clerk may be assigned to perform other tasks in addition to those
discussed above.
