The candidate for this position will D=develop and improve manufacturing processes through observation of manufacturing methods of the products. Provide the link between the Operations group and Engineering for new product and custom product deigns prior to release to manufacturing. This role requires a high degree of hands-on testing, development work, and interaction with the manufacturing technicians and testing staff.

Essential Job Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

• Implement improvements in the manufacturing processes by researching their effectiveness and yield, then applying knowledge of products, processes and manufacturing methods.
• Develop and maintain coating and material composition, define manufacturing processes and application procedures required to achieve consistent, high-yield products.
• Design fixtures and tooling to assist in creating a repeatable, efficient manufacturing process.
• Improve efficiency by analyzing workflow and manufacturing layout.
• Maintain and update process documentation and any related hazardous materials considerations.
• Provide support to manufacturing in the form of answering questions, responding to requests and providing guidance in a timely manner.
• Attend custom system design reviews and be primary contact for Engineering/Sales questions related to the production of custom orders.
• Attend design reviews for new products while they are in development and act as the main input for the Operations group during this process.
• Periodically attend case resolution meetings to assist in helping to resolve customer related issues.
• Take ownership of chosen “high risk” custom orders on the manufacturing side and see them through to completion.
• For this person to be successful (and exceed expectations), they need to be able to work independently, demonstrate flexibility to solve problems as they are encountered and implement resolutions to said problems. They will need to have the aptitude to understand all elements of the manufacturing process and how they are related to Labsphere’s products. In addition to a strong technical base, this individual will need to work at a fast pace when required without sacrificing the quality of the service provided.

General Requirements (Education, Experience, Attributes of Successful Candidate)

• BS in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or Chemistry
• Creative thinker with a positive, can-do attitude that constantly drives to understand the performance of Labsphere’s coatings and materials.
• Knowledge of Solidworks and ability or willingness to learn.
• Capable of working cross functionally with multiple groups and individuals of varying skill levels.
• Experience with spray coating processes a plus.
• Ability and willingness to periodically travel to customer sites for installations or repairs.

Six Sigma/Lean experience preferred.
