This attorney position will be part of the Corporate Group, which handles corporate wide legal functions for The Hartford. In particular, the position will be responsible for supporting The Hartford's corporate Privacy Law function. The attorney will routinely interact with management, business, compliance and information protection partners, and in-house and outside counsel. This role can have a Hybrid or Remote work arrangement.  Candidates who live near our Hartford, CT office will have the expectation of working in an office 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).   Candidates who do not live near an office will have a remote work arrangement, with the expectation of coming into an office as business needs arise. Responsibilities: The position is responsible for supporting The Hartford’s Privacy Law Unit and ensuring that The Hartford’s businesses are apprised of and compliant with applicable cybersecurity and privacy laws through various means, including: Providing legal advice on cybersecurity and information incidents, and working with corporate partners to prepare for and respond to cyber/information incidents, including managing the data incident response process. Drafting, reviewing and negotiating cyber security and privacy contractual provisions for business transactions, including vendor, service provider and customer contracts. Providing legal advice to the business, including to information security team, to ensure practices with regard to personal information of customers and employees comply with applicable domestic and international information security and privacy laws and regulations including GLBA, CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA, NY DFS Cybersecurity Regulation, and GDPR. . Advising on privacy-related technology issues, including the use of cookies, social media, Internet-of-things devices and mobile applications in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. Representing Privacy Law on business projects across the enterprise to ensure that the company is maintaining a consistent interpretation of applicable data security and privacy laws. Serving as a subject matter expert with respect to cyber and privacy training and awareness. Identifying opportunities to improve legal outcomes and internal/external processes based on legal or other trends and developments. Qualifications: Juris Doctor (J.D.) with 2 years of experience in a law firm or in-house law department. (Some in-house experience preferred.) CT Bar License or CT Authorized House Counsel required, or must be subsequently obtained as required by Connecticut bar rules. Proven experience: Communicating effectively with clients and/or law department management on complex legal issues. Resolving legal issue presented and identifying and suggesting resolution of broader business problem. Working independently as well as part of a team to deliver results Experience counseling on privacy and cybersecurity issues, including data incident response, preferred but not required. Experience within the insurance industry (in either business or legal capacity) preferred. Other desired traits: Strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Sound judgment and decision-making skills. Strong verbal and excellent written communications skills. Knowledge of insurance legal and compliance issues. Compensation The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
