  • Columbia Power & Water Systems (CPWS) is a public utility proudly serving the citizens of Columbia and Maury County Tennessee since 1939. CPWS is recruiting a Director of Technology to oversee the Information Technology department and to maintain an understanding of all aspects of technology within the organization. The Director of Technology will provide strategic direction to ensure CPWS is current with changes in technology that meets the company’s need and be responsible for the development and implementation of a reliable and secure technology-related system that supports the organization’s operations.

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    • Establish short- and long-term strategic goals for CPWS Information Technology Department that support the needs of the Operational areas of CPWS. Assist all CPWS departments with their strategic information systems goals and development.
    • Serve as a leader for departmental communication within the company. Provides direction and technical expertise advice for the organization concerning technology.
    • Assure quality and stability of the Information Systems department by integrating necessary controls, procedures, and continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Responsible for reporting any known compliance violations of CPWS’ policies, procedures, and regulations. Ensure that CPWS policies complies with reporting changes required by government agencies across all departments.
    • Responsible for maintaining and revising standard operating procedures for all processes within the Information Technology department. To provide guidance and advice to all other CPWS departments.
    • Supervise and oversee all CPWS’ information technology functions, including supervision of employees in the IT department. Develop an employee career path with a progression of performance and pay scale adjustments.
    • Maintain Cyber security program and implement changes as needed within the organization to assure that all networks are secure from potential unauthorized access, internal and external.
    • Maintain computer systems to ensure computer hardware and software are current with updates and not end of life. Ensure all production servers, network equipment, routing equipment, and firewall devices are current on vendor support along with monitoring the support life cycle.
    • Evaluate and test software changes from new releases before implementing to the CPWS systems.
    • Assist with developing new employee technology training plan. This involves the successful understanding of information systems software including current (NextGen) and future CIS (NISC), Microsoft Office, Esri GIS, and any other software platforms.
    • Ensure that all company data files are backed up daily along with being stored locally and remotely. Monitor backup data files for integrity and corruption.
    • Develop a Disaster Recovery Plan that is reasonable and update as needed. Be able to determine the potential losses of time and information. Perform an emergency restore scenario exercise bi-yearly.
    • Willingness to adapt to change in a fast-paced environment and assist whenever requested.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    • Ability to develop a good overall operating knowledge of CPWS’ utility functions.
    • Ability to work inside.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds.
    • Ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 20 pounds for 4 hours a day.
    • Ability to use eyes, hands, and fingers to operate computer keyboard quickly and accurately.
    • Ability to sit for 2 hours at a time.
    • Ability to talk, see, hear, reach, handle, and feel.

    Education, Experience, and Qualifications:

    • 10 years’ work experience in Information Technology, with at least 5 of those years’ experience managing an IT department required; Degree in lieu of some experience will be considered.
    • Associate or bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or a related field preferred
    • Additional consideration will be given for industry certifications, enhanced training classes, or Microsoft certifications.

    Compensation Package:

    CPWS offers competitive compensation and benefits. Highlights of the benefits included in this package are healthcare, dental, and life insurance plans with all premiums funded entirely by the employer. CPWS also offers a 401(k)-retirement plan to all eligible employees after one year of service. The plan allows elective deferrals from 4% to 75% of compensation and CPWS contributes 8% of compensation to the plan. Employer contributions are subject to a five-year vesting schedule with the entire fund vesting at five years of service
