    Position Summary

    The University of New Mexico Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences has a rewarding career opportunity for the position of Accountant II. The Accountant II position reports directly to the Department Administrator, and oversees daily financial operations.

    This position provides:

    • Direct support as well as oversight of all fiscal operations across the department, including budget and reserves, various revenues, expenditures, transfers and allocations.
    • Process management to include requisitions, encumbrances, invoices, work order costs tracking, journal vouchers, labor distributions, P-card and other Procurement actions, tracking, and reconciliations.
    • Providing support to department payroll.
    • Providing various ad hoc and scheduled reports, and analysis to support accurate, effective, management and compliance for all financial processes. And to provide data to management to support strategic decisions and use of resources.
    • Prepares productivity and revenue reports and conducts analysis to assist with provider billing opportunities.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree and successful completion of at least 12 credit hours of university-level accounting through intermediate accounting; at least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.

    Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in academic setting with knowledge or involvement in management of fiscal operations, personnel / payroll, systems, operations, and finance.
    • Experience working with the UNM accounting system or other large enterprise system.
    • Proven ability to provide guidance to executive leadership on financial business matters and/or processes.
