BASIC FUNCTION: The Patient Account Representative offers an exceptional patient experience at the reception area of Patient Financial Services (PFS). They serve as the first point of contact for patients making inquiries of PFS. The ideal candidate builds and maintains effective working relationships with patients, providers, coworkers and community members. They are expected to ensure that the financial aspect of a patient's healthcare experience is handled accurately, efficiently, and with compassion and understanding.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Maintains positive, professional, and helpful demeanor and always puts patient needs first.
• Greet patients upon arrival or by telephone and updates all necessary patient information, including demographics and insurance information.
• Notifies appropriate PFS members of patient inquiries and communicates with patients.
• Reviews claims to make sure that payer specific billing requirements are met, follows-up on billing, determines, and applies appropriate adjustments, answers inquires, and updates accounts as necessary.
• Duties may include payment collection, following up with patients regarding their accounts as necessary, and coordination of insurance tasks.
• Responsible for payments collected and accurate reporting.
• Maintains daily communication with PFS leadership and coworkers.
• Cross trains with other members of the PFS department and serves as backup support at times.
• Takes messages and distributes to appropriate personnel.
• Provides customer service to patients, coworkers and community members including providing information, referring individuals to appropriate areas/personnel and documenting patient issues and concerns as necessary.
• Distributes and receives information in a variety of formats including phone, email, and fax.
• Scans paperwork into electronic systems.
• Performs a variety of clerical duties
• Performs a variety of tasks and other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Working experience in a similar role in a healthcare setting preferred.                     

SALARY INFORMATION :

• $17.50 - $21.58 Dependent on experience may vary outside this range
• Additional $2.00 - $4.00 an hour for additional weekend and night shifts
• Compensation may vary outside this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience
