Park Naturalist plans, develops, and conducts programs to inform the public of historical, natural, and scientific features concerning national, state, or local parks. May require a bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Being a Park Naturalist is familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Seasonal Naturalist
  • Killens Pond State Park Nature Center
  • Felton, DE PART_TIME,TEMPORARY
  • This position for Killens Pond is responsible for assisting with environmental interpretive programs that will increase the public’s awareness of their surrounding environment. Work is performed indoors and outdoors under various weather conditions. Also responsible for daily delivery of programming and leading tours of the Nature Center which include a collection of native reptiles and amphibians. Applicants must be available to work weekends, evenings and holidays as scheduled.

    Job Duties:

    • Assist school and public environmental programs tied to state standards to increase awareness and understanding of Delaware’s natural resources.
    • Maintain exhibits, park bulletin boards and educational material.
    • Provide general customer service and park information to visitors.
    • Plans, organizes and conducts interpretive walks and tours.
    • Provide live animal care and handling.
    • Performs custodial services in restrooms, offices and other rooms in the Nature Center.
    • Set-up, monitor and provide clean-up support for park programs and special events.
    • Must demonstrate responsibility, dependability, and good communication skills.
    • Maintain a positive attitude.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    · Schedule varies:

    o Weekends, evenings, and holidays are required.

    o 30 hours per week max March – November

    · Casual/Seasonal Employees are not eligible for State Plan Benefits.

    Condition of Hire:

    • Possession of a valid driver’s license (not suspended, revoked or cancelled, or disqualified from driving) and pass mini-bus training (provided).
    • As a condition of hire applicants for this position must successfully pass a Swim assessment.
    • Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States. DNREC does not provide sponsorship for holders of H-1 B Visas.
    • Criminal background check: A satisfactory criminal background check is required as a condition of hire. The recruiting agency may require the applicant to pay for the criminal background check as part of the conditional offer of hire.

    Job Types: Part-time, Temporary

    Pay: $14.50 per hour

    Expected hours: 22.5 – 29 per week

    Schedule:

    • 8 hour shift
    • Weekends as needed

    Ability to Relocate:

    • Felton, DE 19943: Relocate before starting work (Required)
