Being an Optician assists and advises customers in selecting frames based on their prescription, lifestyle needs, and style preferences. Inspects lenses for quality, fits and adjusts eyewear, and repairs eyewear as needed. Additionally, Optician instructs customer on correct eyeglasses and contact lens care and maintenance. Opticians review prescriptions written by optometrists to give patients the BEST eyewear and vision as possible. Common optician duties are to advise patients on the styles and characteristics of eyewear to best suit their needs, repair broken frames and adjust eyewear when necessary. They also need to be able to educate individuals on the newest available lens technology and determine what is optimal for each individual patient. Other behind the scenes duties are verification of lens prescriptions, placing frame and lens orders, and making decisions on what frames to bring into the practice.
