POSITION SUMMARY:

Assist the physicians and APC’s in patient care by addressing incoming clinical needs via phone and/or electronic communications.

Primary responsibilities:

• Answer incoming clinical calls for all providers and gather all necessary clinical data.
• Give clinical direction when appropriate within nurse scope of practice.
• Document phone calls and send messages as appropriate per message protocol.
• Complete prescription refills for all providers.
• Address results of tests with patients as directed by the provider.
• Address Voice Mails located in the Outlook Phone Nurse Folder
• Review MyChart messages and address appropriately.
• Maintain privacy with information according to HIPAA guidelines and perform functions with accuracy and integrity.
• If needed - responsibilities involve covering in the clinic would potentially include:
• Escort patients to the examination rooms.
• Take vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, respirations) as well as height/weight and records results in EMR.
• Record the patient’s current medications in the EMR.
• Perform electrocardiogram per protocol.
• Review and document interim history.
• Notify provider of any significant health changes or hospitalizations.
• Obtain any necessary reports, hospital records, etc. pertinent to the visit.
• Review and assists in completion of forms required by provider prior to examination (i.e. health questionnaire, health history, etc.).
• Notify provider when patient is ready for examination.
• Assists provider with examinations and procedures as needed.
• Adhere to OSHA and HIPAA guidelines.
• Monitor, order and stock clinical supplies.
• Maintain clean and orderly exam rooms.
• Assist with pre-loading of charts.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school graduate or equivalent required.
• Current licensure as a RN or LPN in Virginia required.
• Current Basic Life Support / CPR card or able to obtain within 6 months.
• At least three years of medical office, clinic or other healthcare setting experience preferred.
• Experience as a Phone Triage Nurse preferred.
• A Covid Vaccination is a requirement of employment.
