Meter Reader is responsible for reading electric, gas, or water meters. Keeps track of their use by recording appropriate information. Being a Meter Reader inspects meters for damages or defects. Requires a high school diploma. Additionally, Meter Reader typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Meter Reader may require 0-1 year of general work experience. Under the general supervision of the Utility Manager, performs a variety of skilled duties pertaining to the operation of the City’s Utility systems.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DECISION MAKING
Assists public works personnel in maintenance, repair and operation of various facilities to include but not limited to:
· Reading, replacing and repair of water meters, setters and ring and covers.
· Inspects meters and connections for defects, damage and unauthorized connections. Reports irregularities to the Utility Manager.
· Verifies readings to locate abnormal consumptions and records reasons for fluctutations.
· Walks or drives vehicle over established route and takes readings of meter dials.
· Turn service off for nonpayments of charges for residential.
· Handling of customer complaints and completeing work orders. Interact with clients in a calm and professional manner and avoid dogs and other obstacles when walking onto residential and commercial properties.
· Delivery and collection of garbage.
· Snow Removal from facility sidewalks.
· Performs data entry.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
Conditions:
· Individual will have to work in all weather conditions and temperature extremes.
· Position requires constant bending, stooping, kneeling and standing.
· Performs heavy manual labor such as shoveling, digging, loading/unloading and other related tasks.
