    The employee may temporarily, or on an ongoing basis, direct the activities of other(s) as determined appropriate by supervisory personnel.

    Internal Relationships: Builds and maintains positive and productive working relationships with fellow employees.

    Member-Consumer Relationships: Builds and maintains positive member-consumer relationships promoting the Cooperative’s plans, procedures, and services as well as promoting a positive image for the organization and its goals and objectives.

    External Relationships: Builds and maintains positive external relationships with the general public and other organizations which contribute to the overall success of the organization and reflects positively on the organization and its goals and objectives.


    PURPOSE OF POSITION

    Emphasis of this position is to train to perform duties in all assigned areas of accounting as needed to support the accounting department. Under general supervision, process and maintain accounts payable, petty cash, accounts receivable, special equipment and related information, capital credits, billing and payroll. Assist in various government and regulatory agency reports, budget research and account analysis.


    MAJOR OBJECTIVES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    ACCOUNTABILITY - The following activities are specific to this position:

    • Assistance in the processing of accounts payable and completion of associated records
    • Assistance in the maintenance of petty cash
    • Assistance in the processing of accounts receivable other and associated records
    • Assistance in the processing and maintenance of developer deposits
    • Assistance in maintenance and annual reporting of escheats to governmental agencies
    • Assistance in Capital Credits Allocation and General Retirement duties
    • Assistance in the preparation of consumer accounting journal entries and assistance to consumer accounting personnel with balancing to the general ledger
    • Assistance in the preparation of monthly estate payments
    • Assistance in the maintenance of Gains in Capital Credits system
    • Assistance in the processing of bills, delinquent notices and related activities, and calculating billing adjustments by current policy and schedule
    • Assistance in applying deposits and membership fees to final bills and processing applicable refund requests
    • Assistance in the application of appropriate rates to billing accounts, accuracy of bills, and knowledge of rates and related data
    • Assistance in the preparation and accuracy of special equipment summaries
    • Assistance in the evaluation and placement of accounts on levelized billing, monitoring those accounts, and resolving any problems that arise from member’s participation
    • Assistance with member issues with decline credit card drafts
    • Assistance with payroll processing
    • Assistance to auditors by providing documentation, clarification, and information
    • Monthly analyses, reconciliation, and budget research of assigned accounts and accounts payable data
    • Preparation and accuracy of reports to local government units and other regulatory agencies
    • Confidentiality of all classified information
    • Maintenance of assigned files and records
    • Preparation of spreadsheets and other reports for informational purposes
    • Reports to immediate supervisor of progress and deviation from plans in areas of responsibility and communications with superiors and co-workers
    • Assisting with any other accounting duties, as required
    • Personal productivity and adherence to schedules and deadlines for assigned work
    • Adherence to all Cooperative policies and procedures, safety and security policies and procedures, and supervisory and managerial directives


    The following activities are performed by all CEMC employees:

    • Make every effort to serve all consumer-members courteously and efficiently; to respond to their inquiries appropriately, and if necessary, refer them to the appropriate party for resolution.


    POSITION SPECIFICATIONS

    Position Title: Accountant (Associate)

    Education: Associates Degree in Accounting, Business or closely allied field, or equivalent.

    Job Training, Experience, and Knowledge: One year of directly related experience with an electric utility or an accounting firm is preferred. Accounts payable and/or accounts receivable experience is desired. Must have demonstrated knowledge of accounting functions.

    Abilities and Skills: Must have the ability to organize and plan effectively, problem solve and communicate solutions efficiently. Must have the ability to accomplish results through effective leadership and communication skills. Must have strong mathematical abilities and a keen sense of accuracy. Must have strong skills in written and oral form and be effective in communicating on an individual and group basis. The individual must have, apply and communicate a thorough knowledge of regulatory and legal issues associated with the accounting and financial applications involved with the CEMC accounting system. Must have knowledge and understanding of GAAP and FASB rules and guidelines. Must be capable of planning and prioritizing work and projects in order to achieve the desired results and to meet work deadlines. Must be capable of multi-tasking and maintaining a high degree of accuracy.

    Must have a thorough knowledge of computerized systems and the ability to apply technology proficiently to the duties of the position and keep current on technological trends in the performance of job duties.

    Equipment and Machinery Operated: Computers, electronic and telephone communications equipment, calculators, photocopy machines, and such other electronic and or customary office equipment as required to fulfill the responsibilities and duties of the position.

    General physical activity and demands: Lifting and moving of weights in excess of 25 pounds is infrequent but occasionally required. Position requires the individual to be capable of stooping, bending, reaching and grasping. Duties may be performed in a seated or standing position. Good hand to eye coordination is necessary as is the ability to read electronic displays and screens, and printed materials. The duties of the position are performed in an office environment.

    Driver’s License requirement: Must maintain a valid N.C. Driver’s License of the type specified by the Cooperative if necessary to carry out the duties assigned to the position.

    Overtime Status: This position is subject to the overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act, as amended.
