PURPOSE OF POSITION
Emphasis of this position is to train to perform duties in all assigned areas of accounting as needed to support the accounting department. Under general supervision, process and maintain accounts payable, petty cash, accounts receivable, special equipment and related information, capital credits, billing and payroll. Assist in various government and regulatory agency reports, budget research and account analysis.

Position Title: Accountant (Associate)
Education: Associates Degree in Accounting, Business or closely allied field, or equivalent.
Job Training, Experience, and Knowledge: One year of directly related experience with an electric utility or an accounting firm is preferred. Accounts payable and/or accounts receivable experience is desired. Must have demonstrated knowledge of accounting functions.
Abilities and Skills: Must have the ability to organize and plan effectively, problem solve and communicate solutions efficiently. Must have the ability to accomplish results through effective leadership and communication skills. Must have strong mathematical abilities and a keen sense of accuracy. Must have strong skills in written and oral form and be effective in communicating on an individual and group basis. The individual must have, apply and communicate a thorough knowledge of regulatory and legal issues associated with the accounting and financial applications involved with the CEMC accounting system. Must have knowledge and understanding of GAAP and FASB rules and guidelines. Must be capable of planning and prioritizing work and projects in order to achieve the desired results and to meet work deadlines. Must be capable of multi-tasking and maintaining a high degree of accuracy.
Must have a thorough knowledge of computerized systems and the ability to apply technology proficiently to the duties of the position and keep current on technological trends in the performance of job duties.
Equipment and Machinery Operated: Computers, electronic and telephone communications equipment, calculators, photocopy machines, and such other electronic and or customary office equipment as required to fulfill the responsibilities and duties of the position.
General physical activity and demands: Lifting and moving of weights in excess of 25 pounds is infrequent but occasionally required. Position requires the individual to be capable of stooping, bending, reaching and grasping. Duties may be performed in a seated or standing position. Good hand to eye coordination is necessary as is the ability to read electronic displays and screens, and printed materials. The duties of the position are performed in an office environment.
Driver’s License requirement: Must maintain a valid N.C. Driver’s License of the type specified by the Cooperative if necessary to carry out the duties assigned to the position.
Overtime Status: This position is subject to the overtime requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act, as amended.
