Medical Staff Credentialing Director is responsible for all aspects of the verification process for medical staff incumbents. Provides regulatory oversight and guidance to the credentialing process. Being a Medical Staff Credentialing Director maintains working knowledge and ensures continuing compliance with state, federal, and institutional standards and guidelines. Develops and implements policies and protocols related to medical staff verifications and ensures that the organization and staff are in accordance with organizational and industry standards. Additionally, Medical Staff Credentialing Director analyzes reports on applications and credential status to identify trends and improve the credentialing process. Presents files to the credentialing committee and may act as a liaison to state medical licensure boards regarding the status of license applications. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS). Typically reports to senior management. The Medical Staff Credentialing Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Medical Staff Credentialing Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience.     The Medical Staff Credentialing Coordinator is responsible for providing support services to the Organization’s centralized Medical Staff Services Department (MSSD) and those facilities designated for centralized credentialing.  Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, coordinating, and assisting in the practitioner initial appointment and reappointment application process, collection and coordination of all data required for the timely and accurate completion of the initial appointment and/or reappointment application process for all practitioners.  The Medical Staff Credentialing Coordinator supports the Medical Staff Services department’s efforts to develop and implement streamlined processes within the organization MSSD.

     

    Essential Functions:

    1. Maintains credentialing database to ensure the integrity of the practitioner data is current and accurate.
    2. Enters initial appointment and reappointment application data into credentialing database.
    3. Monitor and track progress of applications, as well as status of primary source verifications/documents to ensure timely and accurate completion of practitioner applications, and forwards files to the Manager/Director when completed.
    4. Evaluates processes and solves problems identified throughout the application process.
    5. Monitors the initial, reappointment, and expirables process for all credentialed practitioners ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies, as well as Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations, policies and procedures, and delegated contracts.
    6. Ensure the organization maintains regular cooperation and compliance with all regulatory, accrediting, and membership-based organizations.
    7. Reviews and evaluates practitioner applications and supporting documentation..
    8. Ensures that all Medical Staff applicants go thorough background investigation, research, and primary source verification of all components of the file.
    9. Performs queries; submits and retrieves National Practitioner Databank reports in accordance with Health Care Quality Improvement Act.
    10. Identifies any issues that may require additional investigation and evaluation, validates discrepancies, and ensures appropriate follow up.
    11. Prepares credentials file for completion and presentation to the Medial Staff Committees, ensuring file completion within time periods specified.
    12. Ensures that the facilities processes requests for privileges, ensuring compliance with criteria outlined in clinical privilege descriptions.
    13. Responds to inquiries from other healthcare organizations regarding credentialing and privileging issues as they arise.
    14. Performs other duties as assigned.
