Mechanical Engineer designs, analyzes, and maintains mechanical components and systems to meet specified requirements and standards. Utilizes technical instruments to develop specifications for new parts, modifications, or prototypes. Being a Mechanical Engineer identifies appropriate materials and processes to ensure the quality, performance, and manufacturability of products. Utilizes CAD software and other design and modeling tools to plan, develop, and improve mechanical parts or components and communicate conceptual designs and specifications to stakeholders. Additionally, Mechanical Engineer conducts prototype testing to evaluate the performance, reliability, and safety of mechanical systems and collects and analyzes data for improvements. Analyzes and troubleshoots mechanical issues or failures to identify root causes and develop solutions. Requires a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. Typically reports to a manager. The Mechanical Engineer work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Mechanical Engineer typically requires 0-2 years of related experience.     SUPERVISOR:   Director of Engineering - DED



    DESCRIPTION


    Support the design and manufacture of additive manufacturing systems that utilize Optomec’s Aerosol Jet deposition technologies.



    MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES

    • Understand MRD requirements and how to realize them in a high performance, cost effective, and timely product design.
    • Plan, produce, and put together new or changed mechanical parts for products.
    • Review work instructions for product to ensure accurate test specifications, procedures, and objectives.
    • Prepare layouts and drawings of parts to be made and the process for putting them together.
    • Discuss changes with peers in the design of a part, process and techniques.
    • Editing of test documents, maintenance of bill of materials and part tolerances.
    • Design, development, testing and documentation of mechanical devices.
    • Conduct final tests of complete units and of parts as they would really be used as a way to investigate proposals for improving equipment performance.
    • Record test procedures and results, numerical and graphical data, and recommendations for changes in product or test methods.
    • Work with the project development team.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

      

    QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE JOB


    Education:

    · Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from a college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Inc. (ABET)

    · 0-5 years related experience, recent grad, or soon to be grad.


    Preferred Experience

    · Engineering support of manufacturing

    · Project Management

    · Work in Additive Manufacturing Industry a plus



    KEY COMPETENCIES

    • CAD software, preferably SolidWorks
    • Ability to work well as a cross-functional team member
    • Hand-on lab and troubleshooting
    • Communications; written & presentation
    • Detail Oriented
    • Knowledge of basic manufacturing processes
    • Technical writing and/or comprehension.
    • Solid understanding of mechanical engineering discipline.


    WORKING CONDITIONS

    • Will work in an office setting.
    • Will assist in lab or manufacturing floor as required.
