    Duties

    As a Supervisory Mathematical Statistician, you will:
    • Provide expert analysis and personnel oversight in the performance of mathematical, statistical, and/or other analyses projects pertaining to the energy sector.
    • Oversee and direct statistical methods in support of impartial data collection programs and processing activities for on-going surveys, producing reports and survey analyses.
    • Provide energy information to support analyses of public policy issues, including requests from Congress and the Executive Branch.
    • Manage the development of energy related models, model testing, and the process of making the models and documentations available for external review.
    • Prepare comprehensive reports of study results to include discussion of substantive research objectives.
    • Provide technical advice to peers and senior managers within and outside of the organization on statistical methods and techniques.

    Qualifications

    BASIC REQUIREMENT:
  • Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics.
  • OR
  • Combination of education and experience -- at least 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics and 6 hours in statistics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

  • In addition to meeting the education requirement above, you must also meet the experience requirement below.

    SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
    A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-14) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:
  • Utilizing statistical techniques for experimental design such as, data analysis, sampling, forecasting, quality control, and operations research to resolve complex problems.
  • Developing professional papers or reports on statistical studies to present to stakeholders.
  • Analyzing the accuracy of statistical data to determine if planned operations and processes are appropriate.


  • Education cannot be substituted for experience at the GS-15 grade level.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations.
