Laboratory Assistant performs research activities in a laboratory environment to aid in the planning, designing, and conducting of experiments. Collects, prepares, and tests samples and records measurements or observations. Being a Laboratory Assistant prepares reports detailing results and conclusions, applications, and methodology. Conducts routine maintenance and safety checks on lab equipment to ensure working order. Additionally, Laboratory Assistant assists with receipt and inspection of raw materials and the ordering and stocking of materials and equipment. May be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining cleanrooms and equipment. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Laboratory Assistant work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be a Laboratory Assistant typically requires 0-2 years of related experience. JOB SUMMARY:
Collect routine and specialty testing patient specimens and ensure proper patient identification and labeling of specimens. Perform EKGs, IV starts, IRTs, Therapeutic phlebotomies, etc. Provide excellent customer service on the phone and in person to all patients, doctors and other medical staff. Work well under pressure. Follow all applicable hospital / laboratory policies and procedures. Must be able to prioritize specimens (STAT, ASAP, Routine, Pre-op, etc.), multitask, and be flexible in order to accommodate the needs of the laboratory.

Education/Certification: High School Diploma or higher. Current BLS Certification. Valid driver’s license.
Experience: Phlebotomy course and/or phlebotomy experience preferred.
Equipment/Technology: Experience with computers and office equipment, required.
Language/Communication: Must be able to read and communicate (oral and written) effectively in English. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely.
Mental Capabilities: Can frequently and consistently make sound judgments. Must be organized, multi-tasker, and a critical thinker.
