The Production Control Supervisor - Materials Ordering is responsible for overseeing the procurement and inventory management of materials necessary for production operations. Key Responsibilities- Team Leadership:
- Supervise and mentor a team of production control analysts.
- Assign tasks, set priorities, and monitor team performance to ensure high levels of productivity and accuracy.
- Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing training and development opportunities.
- Materials Planning and Ordering:
- Oversee the analysis of production schedules and forecasts to determine material requirements.
- Approve and monitor purchase orders for raw materials, components, and supplies.
- Ensure accurate and timely recording of material transactions, inventory levels, and supplier information.
- Supplier Coordination:
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective procurement of materials.
- Negotiate contracts, prices, terms, and delivery schedules with suppliers.
- Resolve complex issues related to delayed deliveries, quality concerns, or order discrepancies.
- Inventory Management:
- Supervise inventory control procedures to prevent shortages or overstock situations.
- Oversee regular inventory audits and cycle counts to maintain accurate stock records.
- Implement and refine inventory management strategies to optimize stock levels and reduce costs.
- Production Support:
- Collaborate with production planners and supervisors to ensure material availability aligns with production schedules.
- Provide leadership in resolving material-related issues that may disrupt production processes.
- Communicate material status and potential impacts on production to senior management.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Oversee the use of ERP systems and other software tools to track and analyze material usage and inventory trends.
- Prepare and present detailed reports on inventory performance, material costs, and supplier performance to senior management.
- Identify and implement opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Lead lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives within the materials ordering function.
- Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
- Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging trends in materials management.
Qualifications- Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management , Business Administration, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Minimum of [X] years of experience in production control, materials planning, or supply chain management, with at least [X] years in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Proven experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) and inventory management software.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong analytical skills and proficiency in data analysis.
- Excellent understanding of inventory control principles and supply chain processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- APICS Certification (e.g., CPIM, CSCP).
- Experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
