Instructor - Special Education teaches courses in the discipline area of special education. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Special Education provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Special Education typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research. Responsibilities:
- Assist the special education teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students
- Provide support and assistance to students with special needs in various educational settings
- Collaborate with the teacher to develop and modify curriculum materials to meet the needs of students
- Assist in implementing behavior management strategies and techniques
- Support students in developing social skills and promoting positive interactions with peers
- Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to reinforce learning concepts
- Assist with classroom organization and maintenance of a positive learning environment
- Help with lesson planning and preparation of instructional materials
- Monitor student progress and document observations
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework preferred
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable
- Knowledge of curriculum development and instructional strategies for literacy education, math, and other subjects
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting students' educational growth
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
