Provides guidance, support, and structure to the learning process of Basic Life Support (BLS)/Advanced Life Support (ALS). Responsibilities: Essential Functions 1. Maintains educational standards set by the American Heart Association and outlined policies and procedures of the Community and Technical Colleges (CTC) and those set forth by Nebraska Methodist College (NMC). 2. Demonstrates appropriate and professional role modeling to facilitate learning in the classroom setting by demonstrating professional behavior at all times. 3. Provides appropriate instruction specific to the age and culture of the participant, to ensure understanding and comfort level of content. 4. Creates a safe environment by maintaining the established standards on cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and reducing the risk of infectious transmission through participant education, assessment and monitoring. 5. Communicates effectively with participants, peers and supervisor utilizing effective communication, conflict resolution and problem solving skills that promotes an environment of cooperation. 6. Assists and mentors Basic Life Support (BLS)/Advanced Life Support (ALS) Instructors to allow for continued professional growth. 7. Report concerns regarding the Basic Life Support (BLS)/Advanced Life Support (ALS) program content, equipment and other related issues to the Basic Life Support (BLS) / Advanced Life Support (ALS) Coordinator to allow for continuous improvement of the program. 8. Sets up, conducts and cleans up the classroom, equipment, and other sites used. 9. Maintains responsibility for continued educational growth and maintaining Instructor status in order to maintain the knowledge and skills necessary to deliver safe, effective instruction. 10. Promotes the Basic Life Support (BLS)/Advanced Life Support (ALS) programs provided by the American Heart Association (AHA) to interested consumers to encourage knowledge of Basic Life Support (BLS)/Advanced Life Support (ALS) in all environments. 11. Must attend mandated meetings as called by Nebraska Methodist College Administration and Basic Life Support (BLS) / Advanced Life Support (ALS) Coordinator. 12. Performs all other duties as assigned. Job Description: Job Requirements Education High School Diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D) required Advanced medical knowledge- RN, EMT, Paramedic Experience Prior Instructor experience preferred. License/Certifications ACLS Instructor: American Heart Association Advanced Cardio Life Support (ACLS) certification required at time of hire. American Heart Association Advanced Cardio Life Support Instructor (ACLS.I) certification required within 90 days of hire. PALS Instructor: American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required at time of hire. American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support Instructor (PALS.I) certification required within 90 days of hire. Skills/Knowledge/Abilities Strong verbal and written communication skills for instruction training and positive interaction students. Able to work in a diverse environment. Able to work as a team member, share information with others, and facilitate the open exchange of ideas and information. Requires the ability to provide transportation to other campus and/or work-related locations within a reasonable timeframe.
