Instructor - Accounting teaches courses in the discipline area of accounting. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Instructor - Accounting provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Instructor - Accounting typically reports to a department head. Has a Master's degree or is a PhD candidate in the applicable field. Has experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate level and possesses the qualifications to participate in research. Accounting Instructor

  • Faculty member to provide instruction in assigned courses. Courses may be seated, synchronous, asynchronous, or hybrid. Maintain accurate records (such as attendance, grades, documentation for accreditation, etc.) and submit any corresponding reports according to departmental or college guidelines. Must be willing to travel to high school locations and work with high school students. Serve on various campus committees and/or as an advisor for student organizations. Teaching schedules may include day or evening depending on course offerings. 

    This is a full time, 9 month position.


    *Salary Commiserate with Education and Experience.

    This position is open until filled. Provide classroom instruction to students.  Prepare for each learning experience; prepare, maintain, and update lesson plan; develop and prepare methods to evaluate student performance; assist in ordering supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons as appropriate.

    Develop and prepare tests to evaluate student performance; proctor tests; grade and record individual scores.

    Provide individual assistance to students outside of the classroom as appropriate.

    Participate in development, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum and/or courses.

    Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance; maintain various records and databases according to program needs or accreditation require­ments, and submit reports according to policy.

    Maintain current knowledge in the appropriate academic fields; participate in staff develop­ment programs, workshops, seminars, and other continuing education programs as appropriate.

    Assist with and carry out, as required, the implementation of policies and procedures related to required instruction­al area.

    Communicate clearly, conscientiously, and in a caring manner with students.

    Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revise and improve lesson format; evaluate a variety of textbooks, films, and videos; select books and other materials to be used for assigned instructional classes.

    Maintain required office hours according to established policies.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Degree Requirements:
    Master's Degree required in business related field with at least 18 graduate hours completed in business/economics related coursework.  All coursework must be from a regionally accredited institution.

    Experience: 
    Community college teaching and distance learning teaching experience preferred. A minimum of 10 years of business experience with at least 5 years in a management position is preferred.

    Knowledge of:

    • Classroom instructional techniques and proce­dures.
    • Principles and procedures of academic and instructional program development and administration in the area of assignment.
    • Current trends, research, and development in the area of assignment.
    • Principles and procedures of record keeping.
    • Principles and techniques involved in curriculum and course development.
    • Principles and techniques involved in test development.
    • Pertinent federal, state, and local laws, codes, and regu­lations, as appropriate.

    Ability to:

    • Participate in instructional programs suited to the community.
    • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities.
    • Participate in curriculum development.
    • Interpret and apply college goals, objectives, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.
    • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local policies, proce­dures, laws, and regulations.
    • Maintain mental capacity which allows for effective interaction and communication with others.
    • Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

    Must be a good team member and be willing to update skills as needed.  Must be able to work effectively with diverse student populations.  Educational philosophy must be compatible with the role of the community college and with best practices in education.

    Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.

    • Oral communication skills will be assessed in the interview. 
    • Written communication skills will be assessed in the letter of application and all application materials submitted.

    Copies of all unofficial degree transcripts, including coursework completed and degree conferred, must be provided during the on-line application process.  Official transcripts are required to be forwarded to the CVCC Personnel Office upon hire.
