Human Resources Director plans and oversees human resources functional operations, including talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, training, employee relations, safety, and compliance.     JOB TITLE: Director of Finance and HR DEPARTMENT/PROGRAM: Administration

    REPORTS TO: Executive Director CLASSIFICATION: FT, Salary, Exempt

    PAY RANGE: $85,000 – $90,000 DOE


    The Kitsap Humane Society (KHS) is a progressive animal welfare shelter whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome homeless animals. We are committed to an open admissions policy, animal rehabilitation and a low euthanasia rate.


    Job Summary

    The Director of Finance and Human Resources is responsible for overseeing the financial management and human resources functions at KHS. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role requires a combination of financial expertise and a deep understanding of HR practices in non-profit leadership.

    The Director of Finance and Human Resources will play a critical role in partnering with the organization’s leadership team in strategic decision making and operations as Kitsap Humane Society continues to enhance its quality programming and advancements in animal welfare.


    Job Duties


    Financial Management:

    · Develop and manage the organization's annual budget, ensuring it aligns with strategic goals and supports financial stability.

    · Monitor and analyze financial performance, providing regular reports to the executive team, the Board of Directors and Finance Committee.

    · Implement and maintain sound accounting principles, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.

    · Oversee cash flow management, investments, and financial risk to maintain financial stability.

    · Ensure compliance with financial regulations and reporting requirements.

    · Address tight deadlines and a multitude of accounting activities including general ledger preparation, financial reporting, year-end audit preparation and the support of budget and forecast activities.


    Human Resources Management:

    · In partnership with the HR Coordinator, develop and implement human resources strategies and policies to attract, develop, and retain a competent workforce in alignment with the organization's mission and values.

    · Oversee recruitment and selection strategies and processes, ensuring the organization has qualified and dedicated staff.

    · Develop and implement training and development programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.

    · Manage employee relations, including performance management, employee engagement, and conflict resolution.

    · Ensure compliance with labor regulations, employment policies, and health and safety standards.

    · Oversee compensation and benefits administration, ensuring competitive and fair practices.

    · Develop and maintain human resources information systems to effectively manage employee data.

    · Manage vendor contracts and negotiate favorable terms and pricing for goods and services.

    · Ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations regarding animal welfare operations.


    Finance/HR Department Oversight:

    · Direct day to day supervision of Finance/HR team.

    · Provide leadership to the Finance/HR team, assisting with the execution of the department's daily functions.

    · Direct and perform functions to support completion of Finance/HR tasks.

    · Support routine tasks to ensure completion in a timely manner and in accordance with deadlines (tasks include, but are not limited to, payroll processing, data entry, financial record keeping, benefits enrollment, hiring/onboarding, employee performance management and reporting).


    Strategic Planning and Reporting:

    · Participate in strategic planning activities, providing financial and human resources insights and recommendations.

    · Prepare financial forecasts and scenarios to support long-term planning and risk management.

    · Develop and monitor key performance indicators for financial and human resources metrics.

    · Provide regular reports and presentations to stakeholders, including board members, staff, and donors.


    · Other duties as assigned by Executive Director

    Requirements

    Qualifications and Requirements:

    · Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, human resources, business administration, or a related field. Alternative experience may be considered.

    · CPA or equivalent professional certification is highly desirable.

    · Proven experience in financial management, budgeting, and human resources management, preferably in the nonprofit or animal welfare sector.

    · Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards.

    · Knowledge of human resources practices, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, and compliance.

    · Proficiency in financial software applications and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

    · Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

    · Strong organizational and leadership skills.

    · Ability to effectively communicate financial and human resources information to stakeholders.

    · Passion for animal welfare and a commitment to promoting the well-being of animals.

    · Must complete a pre-employment criminal record background check.

    · Able to occasionally work evenings, weekends and holidays based on operational needs.


    Physical Requirements

    · Ability to on occasion lift up to 50 pounds

    · Bending at the waist, sitting, kneeling, crouching, walking, etc., as job may require

    · Extended periods of standing and sitting, typing, and monitor viewing

    · Able to drive a motor vehicle and possesses a valid drivers license

    · Work environment may involve exposure to inclement weather, odors and/or loud noises, as well as the presence of, and interaction with, restrained domestic animals.
