Responsible for proper handling of hot oil truck and all other tools or machinery. Being a Hot Oil Unit Operator may be responsible for training new employees and ensuring that personnel is properly adhering to safety precautions. May perform administrative duties as necessary. Additionally, Hot Oil Unit Operator requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Hot Oil Unit Operator works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     POSITION PURPOSE: The Chemical/Refinery Unit Operator will monitor and operate equipment and facilities, including field equipment, ensuring quality and conformance with standard operating procedures. Additional responsibilities include maintaining safety standards at all times and initiating and following emergency procedures when necessary. The Operator/Mechanic will perform basic maintenance repairs and upkeep on area equipment. Job tasks are performed in control room, lab areas, and throughout various operations of the site.

    PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Start up and shut down (normal and emergency) plant systems and components.
    • Operate, monitor and control plant systems; visually inspect, monitor equipment and process conditions.
    • Prepares equipment for maintenance work.
    • Reviews, follows and, if qualified, revises detailed process operating procedures, maintenance procedures and safety procedures.
    • Troubleshoots equipment to restore to operation.
    • Analyzes charts and logs to identify potential or actual problems.
    • Perform laboratory analysis of products.

    All applicants must successfully complete onsite assessment to be considered for this role. Job relocation and/or travel assistance for assessment will not be offered.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT

    • Willing and able to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including overtime, nights, weekends, holidays and short notice call-in if required.
    • Willing and able to lift up to 55 lbs.
    • Willing and able to work in a High Hazard environment; outdoors, indoors, elevated heights and confined spaces.
    • Willing and able to wear required PPE (personal protective equipment) such as steel toes, hardhats, protective eyewear, face shields, respirator, chemical acid suit, etc.
    • Willing and able to climb stairs, ladders; stand, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, crawl; visual acuity for close work; able to reach overhead; able to hear and respond to alarms.

    Qualifications


    Education / Experience / Background

    • 2 years degree or 60 college credit hours in applied sciences/engineering field is preferred.
    • High School Diploma/GED equivalent.
    • High hazard/chemical operations experience.
    • Experience in industrial or manufacturing environment.
    • Experience in reading and interpreting schematics, procedures, manufacturer’s literature, safety requirements, general instructions; ability to learn and detect process deviations.
    • Experience in operating fork trucks.
    • Experience with SAP or equivalent manufacturing operations software.

    Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

    • Ability to navigate the tools of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc. and learn new computer systems and software applications.

    Required Certification / Licenses / Training

    • Current and valid driver’s license – willing and able to obtain powered industrial truck certification.
