Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment or machinery, such as a tractor, bulldozer, backhoe, or excavator, for the purposes of construction, demolition, or excavation. Prepares equipment and conducts routine inspections prior to operation to ensure it is safe and in working condition. Being a Heavy Equipment Operator identifies and addresses potential hazards and adheres to all safety protocols and regulations. May be responsible for scheduling minor repairs and conducting routine maintenance like cleaning and lubricating. Additionally, Heavy Equipment Operator requires a high school diploma. May require State License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Heavy Equipment Operator independently performs a wide range of complex duties under general guidance from supervisors.     Responsible for operating equipment as directed and specified while adhering to all rules and regulations mandated by Mortenson safety policies and procedures.

    Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skill and experience with consideration given to internal equity.

    • Boom Lifts/Aerial Lifts
    • Roller
    • Backhoe
    • Track Crane
    • Track Hoe
    • Main Line
    • Any other equipment as needed
    • Follow prescribed safety regulations
    • Ensure that all housekeeping is maintained in a clear and orderly fashion in assigned area
    • Perform routine maintenance to include lubricating, fueling and cleaning
    • Observe equipment operation to detect machine malfunction
    • Follow work plans and pre-task cards
    • Effectively work and build relationships with those of diverse backgrounds and organizational levels
    • All other duties as assigned
