Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment or machinery, such as a tractor, bulldozer, backhoe, or excavator, for the purposes of construction, demolition, or excavation. Prepares equipment and conducts routine inspections prior to operation to ensure it is safe and in working condition. Being a Heavy Equipment Operator identifies and addresses potential hazards and adheres to all safety protocols and regulations. May be responsible for scheduling minor repairs and conducting routine maintenance like cleaning and lubricating. Additionally, Heavy Equipment Operator requires a high school diploma. May require State License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Heavy Equipment Operator independently performs a wide range of complex duties under general guidance from supervisors. Qualifications
2. Work to obtain Kansas Commercial Driver’s License Class A (6 months from hire date)
a. Air Brake Endorsement
b. Tanker Endorsement may be optionally required
c. Automatic Transmission
d. Standard Transmission may be optionally required
3. Obtain OSHA 10 hour certification (1 year from hire date)
4. Will complete one year of on the job training minimum
5. Work to obtain certifications in : (max 3 years from date of hire)
a. Water Distribution Class I certification issued by Association of Boards of Certification. Equivalent Kansas Department of Health and Environment Water Treatment Class I Operator Certification or another States recognized certification of equivalency
b. National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) Certification : Core Curriculum
c. National Center for Construction Education & Research (NCCER) Certification : Pipelayer Level 1
6. Basic competencies using Microsoft products such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
7. Basic competencies to utilize smart phones, tablets, and computers for communicating, corresponding, and processing work orders
