Heavy Equipment Operator jobs in Alaska

Heavy Equipment Operator operates heavy equipment or machinery, such as a tractor, bulldozer, backhoe, or excavator, for the purposes of construction, demolition, or excavation. Prepares equipment and conducts routine inspections prior to operation to ensure it is safe and in working condition. Being a Heavy Equipment Operator identifies and addresses potential hazards and adheres to all safety protocols and regulations. May be responsible for scheduling minor repairs and conducting routine maintenance like cleaning and lubricating. Additionally, Heavy Equipment Operator requires a high school diploma. May require State License. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Heavy Equipment Operator independently performs a wide range of complex duties under general guidance from supervisors.     Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

    • Knowledge of Heavy Civil Construction and characteristics of all equipment functions and operations.
    • Knowledge of proper equipment use conducive to conditions and assignment.
    • Knowledge of Hazardous Materials and Safety Regulations and industry practices related to equipment use and operation.
    • Skills in operating heavy equipment and machines proficiently and safely.
    • Skills in daily maintenance of machines including repairs and inspecting equipment to identify possible problems.
    • Ability to use time and equipment efficiently in order to complete projects on time.
    • Ability to communicate effectively in a team environment.
    • Ability to handle stress and possess positive trait even in difficult or challenging situations.
    • Ability to attend training sessions, seminars and appropriate educational classes required by department.
